The reviews seem to be very good for "The Force Awakens", some saying it blows the prequals out of the water, and that it is the best Star Wars film since "The Empire Strikes Back" which is my favorite out of the entire saga. :smilecat:

You can "spoil" me by pm. Who is Kylo Ren, who are the Knights of Ren, and what significance is Darth Vader to them if any? I won't be seeing the "Force Awakens" for about a week or so, try not to spoil too much. :smileycat:

I'm in the minority but I didn't like it as much as the reviewers did and a lot have fans. Then again, I'm not a massive Star Wars enthusiast, although Empire is one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made imo.

My problem with this new movie is that it continuously harkens back to the original trilogy and seems like a remake/reboot of the original. There's some cool scenes and it's definitely a good movie but I feel that it lacks the inventiveness of say Mad Max or the overall fun of Jurassic World and doesn't even come close to my fave movie this year: Sicario!

I see this for sure but I still loved it. It was just different enough for me, but the similarities to A New Hope where there for sure.

Are we talking about the movie on this thread or are we still avoiding spoilers?

I reckon we avoid THE spoiler lol Give em till the new year to watch it.

And, I too enjoyed some of the call backs, my only problem is, it didn't carve out a path for itself, hopefully the sequels can build a new, independent legacy.

I liked the movie well enough.

It has a clear story, genuine drama, cool action scenes.

It does put us up to date with most of the main characters of the original trilogy and introduces at least three very promising new characters as well.

I do however think we did not learn enough about those new characters, although I am hopeful for the next movie to fulfill that need.

And it does revisit the plot of "A New Hope" so much that one ends up building an itemized comparison list. There are very direct lines connecting many of the situations, and that is when the former characters did not return outright - in much the same roles, no less.

I need to see it again still, but I'm very divided. I liked it, especially Kylo Ren, but it felt like a rushed, fan fiction reboot.
