I've mentioned this in some DIR threads and in some PMs, but here it is the official RF announcement thread.

I'm going to Korea for a 4 month student exchange!

I'm going to be studying theology at a university in South Korea's capital Seoul, and I'm both excited and intimidated.

Excited, because I'll be experiencing a new culture in which I've never had direct contact. A couple of my friends are half-Korean and they have told me of their time living in Korea, but there is a huge difference between listening to stories and experiencing it for yourself.

Intimidated, because it's possibly going to be rough in parts. Being vegetarian will be a challenge (although not impossible) and I'm going to experience a part of winter there (which I've heard can be pretty rough). But then again, experiencing something new involves both the good and not so good, eh?

I leave later this month and I'm counting down the days.

It is scary to go somewhere you don't know much, to basically move but I'm sure it'll be fine and I hope you have a good time! Enjoy the kimchi and bimbimbap! :D Those are delicious and can be vegetarian.

Honestly, I envy you. It sounds great. I would have liked to have a similar opportunity. Well Japan would have been my aim but pretty much all East Asian countries are interesting to me.

Sounds great. But do you speak and read/write Korean? Will your classes be in Korean or what? Will your fellow students be Koreans?

Quite curious.

I know some words and phrases, but not a whole lot. I do need to learn a bit more.

Will your classes be in Korean or what?

English, since it's an international student exchange.

Will your fellow students be Koreans?

About half will be english speaking Koreans. The other half will be a mix of Japanese, Malaysians, Filipinos, Africans, and perhaps a Hungarian guy. I'll be the only person from the US there this semester.

Way cool bro! Best of luck and take good care of yourself.

Just one advice: watch out for Kim Jong-un. They say he's dangerous.
