Starting a non Christian philosophy group

I did it. I started one for free under Craigslist groups. I have 6 people who claim they will meet me at Dennys next Sunday.

I am excited! But I put it under debate because Mesquite is nothing but all Christian churches , bible groups home church groups etc.........I hope it last in this incredibly conservative town.

I may start renting out a room for us.

I had to put in the description Christians are welcome if they are welcoming of folks from other religions and open to learning philosophy from other religions. Also no witness or preaching the gospel is allowed.

I had to put it in. There are so many bible and home church groups around, I'm worried Christians may show up and take over.
Anyways I am hoping I can get it big enough to open a meetup.com group.

Uh no that wont be allowed. Bible scripture or Jesus sayings none of that.

Dude, I was trying to reason with this fundi Christian only a few weeks ago (not here) and he kept quoting this verse ad nauseam as an excuse to say "nah, I'm just correct, reasoning our beliefs is a sin"
It hurt to see and the passage from Colossians isn't even about what he wants it to be about. I've come to see this kind of selective misquoting as the definitive trait of Protestant mentalities.
This verse in conjunction with sola scriptura and sola fide all refute holding that worldview anyway. Shallow belief systems are based off very weak and malleable emotional foundations, not ontological concerns.

Funny, I go to meetup.com to see what it's about. I get a notification for active seniors in Ventura county. What I'm looking for is the in-active seniors meetup group.

Hey, maybe you could start a Youtube channel at some point.

Why start a 'non-Christian' philosophy group and invite Christians? You are just asking for trouble.

No I actually did not ask Christians to come. I said Universalist Christians were welcome. I did not use the Universalist term but I did say Christians who are open to and welcoming of folks from other religions and sexual orientations, as well are open to learn from philosophical values from other religions. Technically that does not apply to traditional Christians. Traditional christian's especially if they are conservative are not welcome.

But for the few liberal Christians who are open to learning from other religions and all the other stuff I said they are welcome: I am sure there's a few liberal Christians who cross over into Universal Christianity and Universal Christians such as from the Unity church who are welcoming of others religions

But conservative and traditional Christians who Believe Jesus is the only way, no I did not invite them.

The quote comes from 2 Colossians and is one of Paul's "You need not become circumcised" comments. Its claiming that arguments that Christians should get circumcised are really just vain arguments, because while circumcision may seem strict and may seem to encourage discipline it doesn't cause your heart to be circumcised. Again, this has nothing to do with Philosophy, and he's not denouncing philosophical systems.

I appreciate your recognition of the distinction.

As a newer believer in Christ, I always kept a distance from any formal philosophy training. On the job I would witness of Christ and God and got into many discussions and debates with people just like me without any formal training in philosophy.

I decided at one point to take a few classes at a Bible college. Guess what? I had to take a course in Philosophy. I dreaded it, but had to do it. But once I was there and all these 'philosophies' were presented, I kept saying to myself, I have heard that before. I didn't have a name for it but I argued against this on the job with another man who didn't have a name for it either. I wound up enjoying the class being able to put a name on the many philosophies I had already encountered.
