Statues

Isabella Lecour

amor aeternus est
I only have two statues, neither of which represent a deity. I have a statue of Buddha and a statue of an intertwined couple titled "The Lovers." I often use physical objects to stand in for the Gods which is similar to using statues but not the same. I would like to have a few statues around, if I could afford the ones that I am drawn to.

Isn't that always the way? :)

I know when I'm drawn to something, it's way too much money than I want to spend on it...

I have about 5 statues not necessarily of Deities, but of a being I hold in high standing of godlike form.

I always thought it odd that a dung beetle should be held in such high regard...

kind of odd some people hold a guy nailed to a plank in high regard. It's all about metaphor.

I've not got it yet, but I really like this

I have a couple of statues and I'm going to be getting two more in a few weeks. I have Amun-Ra, Bast, Horus, Hathor, and Anubis. I'm getting Osiris and Isis in a few weeks and then in June I'm getting Ra and Sekhmet. My main altar is dedicated to all Egyptian gods and goddess but the main ones on that altar are Horus and Hathor. I change up when it's a holiday. I'll post a photo of my altar tomorrow after the feast of Horus and Bast is over.

I treat my statues as sacred objects because they are. I'm planning on doing The Opening of the Mouth on my statues soon but not right now. Once a week I will take down my statues and bath them in natron and water, then put on fresh robes. The old ones are washed and put away.

Very cool.

Can you tell me a little bit about how you use the Opening of he Mouth in your tradition? Was it used on statues as well as mummies back in the day?
