Strange question about Disney

Scott C.

Just one guy
How do the LDS feel about Dungeons and Dragons and Harry Potter? These 2 things make many fundamentalists and evangelists froth at the mouth.

I love Harry Potter and have seen all of the movies. I have never been interested in reading the books. I have a son who has read all of the books.

I like The Lord of the Ring movies, but they're not my favorites.

I don't know anything about D&D.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about them?
No opinion on D & D, since I know nothing about it; and my son owns every HP book. I'm simply happy he reads. I'm not a HP fan, because I don't enjoy fantasy. I did read most of the first volume because of the controversy, but found it to be harmless--like The Wizard of Oz. (Which I loved as a kid.)

How is it dangerous? I've yet to see anyone cast a d8+2 fireball in real life.
Lol! Nothing that cool, but part of LDS belief is the existence of evil spirits roaming the earth. Some people wouldn't want children playing with certain fantasy/mystical concepts because there may be bad spiritual influence.

That's not something I subscribe to myself, but it is not unknown for LDS to believe that playing with some occult practices to be dangerous.

Wow! I thought I was the only person in the world who doesn't enjoy fantasy. My whole family (husband, kids, sister, in-laws -- everybody!) loves fantasy. To me it's just such a waste of time.

Yes, I am bored to death with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars also. But give me Jane Austin, and I am in heaven. (Or a good Denzel Washington suspense movie!)

I'm not a big fansaty fan either. And I'm extremely selective in my Sci-fi. I like Lord of the Rings, HP was ok to watch the movies but I wouldn't consider myself a fan. But I'm alomst breaking the Ten commandments with Star Wars and Star Trek because if I have false gods it's those.

I'm not really into fantasy. I'm not really much into fiction, if I am to be honest! But I do read some and I can appreciate and be impressed by great work when I read it.

How about Stargate SG-1? I was really into that series.

Nope. Not a fan of that or Battlestar. or Babylon 5. Or what have you. My only real sci-fi squeezes are Star Trek and Star Wars. I like Dr. Who too. I like Halo. But that's about it.

I guess Prince of Persia could be considered Fantasy. If so I like that more than LOTR.

Actually, I wasn't. But a do know of several of the more conservative groups of Christians who have a problem with such things. I could be wrong, but I believe there are some Southern Baptists would rather die than let their kids watch a movie that had a witch, a dragon or a fairy godmother in it. And come to think of it, FFH might have a problem with those things, too. :D

I thought Southern Baptists hated Disney because it gave insurance benefits to gay couples. I didn't know they also objected to the fairytales.

As for the OP, I don't know of anything from the church that would discourage a hobby of collecting Disney stuff.

Well, I think it's both. I know that certain right-wing groups (I couldn't say for sure whether it's the Baptists or not) have a real problem with anything that concerns witchcraft or magic. That would include Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Sleeping Beauty.
