Striving for wealth in Hinduism - good, bad or neutral?

Well, I'm going to make an admission that probably goes against much of what we believe... playing the lottery, which is gambling. We have a small group at work where we throw in $5 once or twice a week for the state lottery. Anyone who wins splits the winnings with every other person in the state or country who picked the winning numbers. I personally don't gamble other than that, and if it weren't for this group I would probably not even play. Do I expect to win? Not really. Is it just fun? I can't deny it is.

So, what would I do with the money? Pay off bills I have with creditors and collection agencies (been a rough time), including the mortgage. I might sell the house and get something only slightly larger (I want a puja room dammit! :D). Would I buy a new vehicle? I dunno... my truck is a 2004 Chevy Silverado with 272,000 miles on him (his name is Bryan), he needs maintenance work, but I love the truck. Once that's done I would probably give a good chunk to some charities... animal shelters and rescues, veterans, for example. Or I'd set up a serious and well-managed investment and use the proceeds for those purposes.

I don't care for jewelry, fancy or expensive clothing, expensive restaurants; I don't (like to) travel; I don't like most of the things people would blow their money on. I think that if I were to come into such a large amount Mother Lakshmi must have had something to do with it. It would be an affront to her to abuse it or flaunt it.
