You've lived in France how long? Surely you've picked up a thing or two

I've picked up plenty. Before moved here i rarely cooked and when i did it was simple stuff.

That of course does not mean I'm any good at it now.

We have just finished our 7 course Saturnalia meal that I've spent most of the day preparing. It was ok, good even, but only because i used the best available ingredients.

I couldn't get any dormice, finches, fermented fish sauce or falernian wine but most of what we had would have been available in ancient rome... Plus we have a pescatarian amongst us so i didn't do any meat dishes.

Mushroom pate with toast
Leak and potato soup
Turnbot on a bed of rice
Walnut salad
Yule log with cream (hubby made the log, very nice)
Various cheeses with biscuits
Coffee and chocolate

For hubby and twins, Montdoyen and Monbazillac wines

One of the children is chosen as king/queen for the day (it used to be one of the slaves but we don't have any ;-)

This year it was Beth youngest. She hasn't demanded anything ridiculous yet ;-)

I like what you and your family do: you observe Saturnalia and you do it in your own way yet in the spirit, and you live in a land where Romans were. :)

“Was Jesus American?”

Gosh! Bwahahah! :tearsofjoy:
