In a few threads I've been reading lately, I've been curious about the language used. I realize that, especially in the 'Debates' section, things can get quite a bit heated. Am I being overly sensitive, though, to various comments that might be interpreted as... well, rude? I have been fortunate, in that none of these have been directed at me, but I am puzzled as to why a person who is wanting to make an argument would infer that another person is of lesser intelligence than themselves. Doesn't that simply serve to insult the other person and not to prove their point?

I really think for the most part it's just the difference in communication styles combined with the lack of body language. Personally, I don't care for sarcasm and perceive it as rudeness...which does not necessarily mean the person being sarcastic is intending to be rude...just that I perceive it that way. Without the body language, it just seems more astringent.

Tact??? I thought this was about tracts!

I try to write all my posts with a smile on my face. Sometimes it's pushing it, but most often I think they just come out better that way. While I try to point out logical inconsistencies and moronic tendencies with gentle sarcasm and wit, I do try to not attack the person behind the posts. Except for maybe TVOR, cuz he KNOWS when I am teasing and when I am not.

However, I do feel we ALL take ourselves W-A-Y too seriously and need to lighten up just a tad. I poke fun at myself more often than I poke it at others because it's just plain healthy. I can be just as farm animal stupid as the next guy, even if I can't see it!
