Washington (CNN)Roger Stone, a longtime showman, political strategist and friend of President Donald Trump's, was sentenced Thursday to 40 months in prison.

Stone was convicted last fall of lying to Congress and threatening a witness regarding his efforts for Trump's 2016 campaign.

The sentencing is the culmination of an intense week that provoked Twitter fury from Trump and a reckoning within the Justice Department, leading a prosecutor to declare Thursday: "This prosecution is righteous." It's also the near-end of a case that's had several shocking moments that exposed Trump's interest in WikiLeaks during the campaign.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson spent much of the hearing criticizing Stone's actions and also defended the Justice Department prosecutors at the center of last week's drama.

Uh huh, like your favorite liberals have never pardoned anybody.

Now I don't know whether Trump will pardon Stone or not. I think it will depend upon how fair the sentencing is, and whether Stone gets a new trial as a result of the foreperson of his jury being as blatantly politically biased as she admits to being (she should have let people know BEFORE she served, not after she steered the verdict, and let the prosecutors/defense decide whether she belonged on that jury...and she didn't belong on that jury). You shouldn't have a problem. After all, didn't Obama pardon General Cartwright, who admitted to lying to congress?

Looking at the list of Presidents who issued pardons, it seems pretty obvious which side of the aisle does this the most. I mean, really...Obama pardoned 212 people and commuted sentences for over 1700 more, and Trump has pardoned a whopping 20 people so far.

Let us not look at what Roosevelt did...considerably over 3000 pardons?

I'm hoping 100%, but it's nothing about Stone or his guilt.

I think he should just blanket pardon all of the people that became targets due to the Russian investigation and call it a day. The witch hunt has to stop at some point, and personally I'm ready. Pardon anyone that was involved just in the spirit of forgiving people and moving on. Mind you, I'd say that if it was the opposing party holding the reins -- I think we all go to a better place if we move past this. We don't move past it if we're looking for blood. If this guy has got to pay and that guy has to pay then someone gets pissed and someone else has to pay. I don't see how that helps us at all.
