in Taoism there is Enlightenment, but its different from some other "Enlightenment Traditions". In this form of enlightenment you harmonize yourself with Tao or the way of the universe. You become Spontaneuous, natural, and humane. Lao Tzu once said "The sage doent sleep because its time too, or because he has to. He does so because he is sleepy." That is enlightenment.
"It is the dark, inaccessible part of our personality, what little we know of it we have learnt from our study of the dream-work and of the construction of neurotic symptoms, and most of this is of a negative character and can be described only as a contrast to the ego. We all approach the id with analogies: we call it a chaos, a cauldron full of seething excitations... It is filled with energy reaching it from the instincts, but it has no organisation, produces no collective will, but only a striving to bring about the satisfaction of the instinctual needs subject to the observance of the pleasure principle."
Lao Tzu says that in Chaos there is organization. Im begining to see that the Id isnt as bad as people say it is. In a book entitled "The Tao is Silent" the author says, this isnt word for word, that if you dont trust your dog and chain it up, you automatically make it bad. This means that when you cover up the Id, it becomes suppressed, angry, chaotic. But when the ego dissapears, the Id becomes free and harmonious again. It isnt negative, its Enlightenment.
So in short, the dissolution of the Ego allows the all natural Id to come out. That is Enlightenment.
