Tattoos & religion.

My wife & I watched a show a while back about religion & tattoos I forget what channel. I'm wondering what your faith( whatever that might be ) says about them.


I know of no rules or anything stating that Pagans can not have them, In fact I'm still looking for someone to do one like my avatar.

Depends on what sort of pagan you are, but I haven't come across one yet that specifically "banned" tattoos... which is good, 'cause I'm not getting rid of mine, I love him too much

Not that I know of but other religions do & those are the ones I'm wondering about.

It was here in South Carolina for a long time they just passed a bill to have them here.

There is nothing in the Baha'i Faith forbidding a moderate amount of tatoos or piercings - as moderation in all things is stressed - and I know several people that have them. There is only this quote:

"The choice of clothing and the cut of the beard and its dressing are left to the discretion of men. But beware, O people, lest ye make yourselves the playthings of the ignorant." (Bahá'u'lláh, Tablets of Bahá'u'lláh Revealed After the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, Bishárát, p. 23)

Given the latter part of that, I guess it's forbidden to have a huge excess of tattoos/piercings.

Tattoos are encouraged in heathenry in my experience. I know of one kindred that has all of it's members have the same raven tattoo.

'Course not, I understand. No offense taken whatsoever. We've got different interpretations of such things, that's what makes us human.

As other Pagans there is no rule I know of that says no Tattoos. And I don't know of anything in Shinto that says Tattoos are bad(though in Japanese itself tattoos are still usually associated with the Yakuza). And in many parts of the Asian world tattoos are seen as have powers, one gets them for luck, protection, strength, and many other things(there are other culture that see tattoos the same way).

The Boston Tattoo Convention is next month. I'm sure you'll find many artists to choose from if you feel like making the trip.

I'm assuming that when told not to deface your temple, tattoos are probably not smiled upon.

I kept my spiritual beliefs in mind when getting my tats. I have a shamrock on my chest, close to my heart. It's not a four leaf clover...it's a three leaf. Why? Saint Patrick used to the shamrock to explain the trinity. At first, when I got the tat, it was mostly because I enjoy things that have an Irish-Celtic feel but my little shamrock means a lot to me. It's actually a nice, green reminder of who I am and more importantly, who my God is.
