Teacher bans boys from playing with legos

We could only dream of squirrels! You were lucky!
And whenever I finally managed to chip the knife and kill the squirrel, some girl would wander over, bat her eyes and jiggle her boobs. If I didn't give her my dang squirrel everyone would say I was gay.

She probably didn't see anything wrong with it, so she had nothing to hide from the public.
Maybe... though after personally witnessing one reporter horribly misquote a manager of mine, I don't automatically trust that the paper got it right, especially when it's one I've never heard of.

Experimenting on kids this way doesn't make her look any better.
I wouldn't necessarily fire her over this, but she would need some
extensive sensitivity training at the least.
It comes with the job... you have to try out ideas if your kids aren't getting what they need to get.

As far as I can tell no one is denying the veracity of the story, only that the backlash is undeserved.

I wonder what the result would be if she banned all the black kids from using Legos?
Not all experimentation is worthwhile, but when it involves illegal discrimination against a protected group, trouble looms.

I understand her desire to encourage girls to play with legos, but that shouldn't require denying boys the opportunity to do the same. If it's children being creative and using their brain that she's worried about, then get the crap that concerns her (like the dolls) out of her class room and only have toys that exercise mental skills, and enough of them for everyone in the classroom.
