Teachers Strike in Arizona

Claiming acting on the behalf of the students seems more like platitudes and emotional blackmail. Is there anything binding on the teachers in any proposed agreement in which a pay raise for teacher will result in better students or better school results? Are there repercussions if results do not improve?

Arizona is third from the bottom for money spent per student and third from the bottom for salary paid per student among all 50 states. Happier teachers, better teachers, better facilities, and better teaching aids would seem to be the outcome if more money is spent on education.

My question was regarding increased performance of students in relation to increased funding and wages. IE results for the money spent

Student performance isn't directly related to teacher performance. There are many, many other factors such as the economic status of the students' families.

That I agree with, so this part of our "conversation" at least is now over.
You regard your implications as facts and mine as dishonesty. I don't think we have much to discuss on this subject. So I'm done with it.

I was talking about performance in relation to funding. After all if they are claiming something on the behalf of students then there should be results in order to make a comparison between the new funding and the previous level. IE getting your moneys worth.

While the strike has since ended, there is still some fallout over money being diverted from other projects to pay for raises: http://tucson.com/news/local/in-tus...cle_5a9453ea-cce6-5db7-a7d3-60716e8304e0.html

“I want to be very clear with the community: This leaves us with absolutely a zero balance to handle anything with deferred maintenance, anything with transportation, anything with technology,” he said.

But it’s not just the ability to repair caving roofs, buy buses with air conditioning and replacing outdated and broken laptops that will go by the wayside as the district attempts to put all new money into salaries.

School safety will also suffer, he said.

“With the ... focus on making sure all of our money will be put into salaries, I have concerns in these three areas (of crisis readiness, student support services and security infrastructure),” he said, adding, “I remain concerned about our ability to really aggressively act in the area of school safety.”
