Teenage Curfews

...What strikes me about this thread is that people have immediatly assumed that this curfew was designed to prevent teenagers from causing trouble. Of course it couldn't be to protect those nasty teenagers from the poor innocent adult criminals...

Good point. I think some communities have both thoughts in mind when they pass a curfew. Personally, I think the police have enough to do at night with bar fights and drunk drivers without having to babysit juvenile delinquents. If police do come across some rowdy underage kids, at least in the US, we have plenty of laws on the books they could use to round them up. For some youth, all it takes is one phone to mommy & daddy from the police station to come pick up their little monster to straighten them out.

Trusty Uncle Sunstone also believes the only way all teenagers will be in bed by 8:00 is if they are in bed having sex with each other. Or we could have them up every morning at 4am to milk the cows . Therefore I believe that every parent should have ten cows for every teen ...


They had a curfew for awhile when I was a teen . Which meant then teens just had to keep to the shadows more , and that the police had to waste a lot of time chasing those shadows if they wished to enforce the curfew .

Like so many things , there are good sides to a curfew and not so good . The way I see it though , is that curfews take away from human rights . They assume that a person is doing wrong before the fact . So personally I don't like them and have never followed them .

My parents would have cows for long. Over night the 10 cows would be turned into about a 10 months worth supply of steaks.

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't heard anything further on this topic, but I do have my ears open.

And IMO, I don't feel that the gov't should have the right to dictate when anyone's curfew should be.

It seems to me that a curfew for all of a certain group does 3 things:
1) Persecutes that group and rationalises the existing fears or hatreds towards that group
2) Removes the freedom of that group
3) Throws the concept of innocent until proved guilty out of the window
