Telling someone they are going to hell: religious duty or not your place to say?

Many religions claim that their adherents are going to heaven, and the non believers are going to hell. Abrahamic religions have pushed this but even eastern religions believe this even.

My take on this is if someone tells me that I am going to hell, then it is my fundamental argument that a persons virtues is determined by his actions on earth.

The audacity of a person telling me going to hell makes me wonder who gave them the right to tell me. I am not a walk away type of person so it would be difficult for me to reason with an animal like that.

Any thoughts?

If anyone tells you that you are going to Hell, - tell them they had better look in the mirror, as they are attempting to ursurp their own God's initiative; and the only one qualified to make that judgment (in that religion)!

For me it was a way to motivate.

I was receiving calls for a religious network and a guy called in saying that he wanted to leave his homosexual situation but was having trouble doing so. After a while he said he just couldn't leave, whereupon I told him to go to hell. He said Christians aren't supposed to say that. I said "what do you think Jesus will say to you?"

You know, I don't think your above comment breaks any Forum rules. But it sure breaks the rules of decency. Let's see: Arrogant, ignorant, prejudiced, cruel, and bigoted? Yeah, those all seem to describe your comment.

You are twisting my words, but I expect that from a coward. You are probably the type that says this kind of stuff to people and one day soon hopefully it will land you face first on the ground. Telling someone to go to hell is beyond excessive and unnecessary. If someone were to hit some one that did say that, it would be okay. I mean, they are saying you are going to rot in eternal hell, then they can get their tenfold. Why does anyone need to preach their religion that teaches enough hate that if you are not with them you will suffer. I do not care what religion you are. There is no place in the world for people that say this kind of stuff. You can try to minimize it as much as you want but this is not just some simple disagreement.
