Texas Law Banning Abortion After About Six Weeks Takes Effect

We Never Know

I'm not going on about people killed by terrorists. You are going on about aborted "babies". If you are concerned about them so much that you post about them, I can ask what you have ever done for them.

Typo- that should have been "did not want..."

These are 99% effective. That's more more effective than the vaccine.

Long-active reversible contraceptive (LARC) methods
You do not have to remember to take or use these methods. They have no user failure, so are not less effective with typical use.

  • Contraceptive implant: more than 99% effective with perfect use. They work for 3 years, but can be taken out earlier. Fewer than 1 in 100 women using the implant will get pregnant in a year.
  • Intrauterine system (IUS): more than 99% effective. An IUS normally works for 3 to 5 years depending on the type, but can be taken out earlier. Fewer than 1 in 100 women will get pregnant over the 3 to 5 years when using an IUS.
  • Intrauterine device (IUD): more than 99% effective. An IUD can stay in place for 5 or 10 years depending on the type but can be taken out at any time. Fewer than 1 in 100 women will get pregnant in a year, depending on the type of IUD. Older types are less effective.
How effective is contraception at preventing pregnancy?

Not everyone is going to implant themselves with a prevention technique.
Condoms are only sitting at 82% according to your own source.

Nothing is foolproof when it comes to medication. And the pill is actually used as medication in addition to birth control. You’re dealing with hormones, people’s forgetfulness and a whole host of potential issues. I can agree that abortion shouldn’t be taken lightly. But reality tells me that it’s going to be a last resort for some people. I accept that reality. Criminalising it only kills more people. Something the pro life folks seem to be okay with, strangely enough

In my opinion it shouldn't be a crime. As I've said many times before, prevention is out there and should be used and easily available.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Unfortunately people are messy and prevention is not always taken. In such scenarios I prefer people get easy safe access early in the first trimester. If they don’t, well didn’t coat hanger abortions kill more often than not?

An obvious attempt to distract from the fact that abortion takes lives. Obviously I can not stop babies from being aborted. Abortion is the issue, not whatever rabbit trail you can dream up.

You did not list side effects for these procedures. How about an even better method? Reversable vasectomies on all 12 year old boys. Reverse procedure upon marriage.

Why only punish women for sex without reproduction?
I'm not following you at all.

In islam both men and women are punishable for unlawful sexual intercourse whether the purpose is to reproduce or not and whether the woman conceives or not.

In a secular world there is no punishment for a man or a woman for the same, again, whether she conceives or not.

That site talks about vasectomies and problems of reversing them plus it probably has a section about/on side effects of everything on it.

Read up on those and get back with me.

Yeah that greatly concerns me too. Involuntarily reminds me of a lynch mob.

There's a certain demographic that conflates vigilantism with patriotism. It's dangerous.

Well I don’t know really. I guess avoiding sensationalist terms. Not sure if there are any when dealing with the Holocaust in particular. It was just an extreme example that came to mind if I’m honest. For obvious reasons I hope. Maybe avoiding slurs, and terms that may elicit emotions rather than facts. (Please note that I am in no way shape or form a Holocaust denier. Just that it’s an easy go to example of an extremely disturbing discussion topic.)

Okay, that's fine, and no I didn't even consider whether you would be a Holocaust denier.

Supporting measures to decrease abortions is weirdly absent from my discussions with many pro life advocates. I mean it does make you side with the opposition if you are truly against abortion, in my opinion

Well, there are definitely degrees of being pro-life. Some allow for contraceptives, some don't, some take pro-life all the way to prohibiting euthanasia or capital punishment, some are pro-capital punishment but against the right to make your own end of life decisions. Some make exceptions for race and incest, some don't. And so on. And there are assuredly many out there who say one thing and do another, and slip their pregnant 14 year old down to the local clinic, or in the case of this guy: vote pro-life in public, tell his mistress in private to get an abortion.

It’s always nice to find common ground. Lately black and white thinking has seemingly become the norm. I don’t think that’s particularly productive or meaningful going forward. Compromise and realising the grey helps our society grow and become better, in my opinion.

We're polarized to such an extent that it's like we're in a centrifuge and it's a struggle to move in the direction of gray because we're pinned against the wall with the black and the white. But then abortion has always been polarizing, and for a lot of religious believers, there is no gray. Gray means compromise and they will not. I know this from firsthand experience.

I don't have to. You've made your position very clear.
