Well, criminals are animals and they deserve as good as do our pets!

There is not a single one of them that is not due to die anyway. We all do die! Let's protect the ones who do NOT harm others. That is the compassionate way to deal with them.

So why can't I use that argument to murder whoever I please? After all, they're going to die anyway!

Also, perhaps those who would keep prisoners in jail for the rest of their lives are perfectly willing to pay the heavy cost themselves---even of keeping one such killer or sex abuser alive. Or do they just want others to pay it?

Is there some magic "get out of paying taxes if you oppose the death penalty" card I'm totally unaware of? Where can I get it?

Already, we are crowding the Earth so fiercely that we have become obsessed with the environmental problems caused entirely by our sheer numbers here---and yet we are asked to bear another totally unnecessary burden.

So when can we start killing off random people, too? After all, we're over crowding!

What do these over-soliticious people do when their dog or cat gets old and his quality of life hits bottom? Do they let the animal live on and on in misery? Do they drive out into the country and push the poor thing out the door? Or do they take it to the vet and have it "put to sleep"? They certainly do not leave the choice up to the animal!

This has nothing to do with the death penalty.

That's so horrifying I'm not sure how to respond. Thank god at least even the people that kill them realize they are human, even if some people would like to pretend they aren't so that they don't feel guilty about killing them.

Of course the criminal will choose life in jail before execution. It is the instinct to live. If we make the decision ourselves for the cat or dog, we should do the same with the criminal. After all, society must be in charge and make good decisions.

Thanks but no thanks. I'm perfectly happy with me, not society, making decisions about whether or not and how I live.

People can be healed. Whitman killed partially due to the effects of a brain tumor. Rehabilitation is needed for the mentally ill, which most of these people at least are.

I think you may want to research how well rehabilitation works in these cases. You'll find that rehabilitation doesn't have a great track record. It's a waste of time and taxpayer money.

That sure seems to be the case. I hear too many reports on the news about these sub-human nuts getting out on parole and then doing the same thing again......only this time it usually ends in murder.

You really think these people need rehabilitation? You think they're going to change? Better yet, do you think they have the right to live after doing something so evil?

I agree Mister T. I thought of a scenario this AM that involves a terrorist sniping people off on a building. What would we expect to happen? A SWAT team racing to the scene and a sniper of our own taking the ******* out.

But when it comes to a common mudererer...people for whatever reason have sympathy or empathy, and they somehow change their hearts about it and act as if it's so wrong to end human life under any condition.

I think there ARE conditions when it's justifiable. One condition is when someone keeps killing and murdering other people. This needs to stop, the person is a threat to society no different than a small time terrorist.

Human dignity and worth in my opinion can be lost. It's not something that sticks with us simply because we breathe.

There have been times when killers have been kept in jail and they killed someone while they were there or escaped and killed again. Why allow this scenario to happen?! Why do people have this emotional hang up about protecting society?

Perfect example...here a boy was brutally molested and then strangled to death. This sounds terrible just reading the words quick. But take a couple minutes to play through your mind what probably happened. This innocent boy was probably stipped down naked and had his anus penetrated...at some point in time he was then being choked until the life was snuffed from him. What if it was your kid?

And some of you want these disgusting animals protected? Why because ending a human life is wrong? I think we do have a right as a society to eliminate threats, especially those that target our children.

I do as well. We do not need to house these people. They took young, helpless, innocent life. A little boy who could not defend himself. These people need to be hung, if not worse. But I guess that must be the primative reptilian part of my brain talking.

Upon conviction they should be hung in front of the courthouse for all to see. No lifetime apeals or anything. The same with all murderers and rapests. I don't see why i have to pay to protect these animals.

The death penalty is not about revenge killing. There are some people in this world who can not be reasoned with and become a real threat. Our prison systems in the mean time are overflowing. Even though no decent human wants to take anyones life when it comes down to the life of a predator or the life of innocent children I believe the choice is pretty simple.

Let's say you're the Mayor of a small city. You get a phone call that some nutcase is on top of the chamber of commerce building shooting at people with a rifle. The authorities state that they have sight of the guy and are just awaiting your orders to fire.

Two people are dead already....you can have your officers fire on him....or you can have them get a megaphone out and try to talk him down and get him put in prison.
