If the name of Allah or any other religious text is written on a sheet and you wish to throw it away for some reason, you're required to burn it. That's what I learnt.

So what's the big deal about that preacher in Florida wanting to burn a Qur'an if that is true?

Obviously it was a sign of disrespect, but I remember I did not really bother myself that much with it, I also refused to boycott FB on the "Draw Muhammad Day".

it's the intention that people oppose. if Muslims burn a Qur'an or any holy scripture, it's likely because it was damaged and needed to be discarded.

having said that...

i'll fight for the freedom of speech every day of my life even if it allows for holy book burning to be legal. these people wouldn't get nearly the press if we didn't make such a big deal out of it. who cares if a few yahoos burn holy books? i may not like the idea, but i'm not going to waste my time stewing over it either.
