Alright I think I understand what you are saying;
Why are the right-wing conservatives of today, who happen to be quite fanatically Christian, so far-removed from what Jesus actually teaches?
Well that's quite simple, the Right Wing of America is both politically conservative and SOCIALLY conservative. That's what separates them from the conservative parties in Europe like the Tories or Fine Gael.
Social conservatism is having beliefs that are right wing in terms of how people should act in a social norm. Being anti-gay, racist or anti-secular would be a good example of this. They are pretty much run by the Church as well and the Church doesn't like change, change is bad for them.
