So, not such a huge fan of Real Ale (at least their Full Moon Pale), IPA is ok.

Golden Draak is great though! I also tried some....what was it? Leffe, I believe. That was pretty good, too.

I'm gonna have to snag a menu from the Old Monk and ask you guys what I should try next :D

If you can find it, try Real Ale's Double ESB. It's insanely good.

I'll be drinking some Bells Hopslam tonight!!! :D

Had a Toohey's New on Sunday. It's an Australian beer, a real one, not a fake one like Foster's. It was good. I've been emailing several stores in the area trying to find someone who sells it.

Did you have it on draft? Is it light or dark or medium? :D

No, it was in a bottle. I would characterize it as a medium. It receives about a C average on Beer Advocate, which if you're wanting to be able to consume mass quantities of a decent beer, that's a good rating. :drunk:

I'm not familiar with Beer Advocate...what does C average mean? Is it related to alcohol content?

Any suggestions, guys? The list of bottled beer, especially, is so long I've barely scratched the surface....And at the pub, the menu is actually longer

A quality Microbrewery, or Brew Pub will give samples of a beer before you commit to buying a whole glass. If the bartender is knowledgeable they will ask what your preferences and tastes are and try to match them to something that you have never tried before. Do not be afraid to ask.
I have many favorites, but personal tastes differ. I am also a home brewer and like to try new things in my recipes to get new and exiting flavors.
My most successful brews have been...
Light Honey Ale (7.5 abv)
Mulled Winter Wit (8.5 abv)
Cherry Coffee Stout (5.5 abv)

Any other home brewers out there? Lets swap recipes.

I also have a recipe for a Chocolate Stout Chili if anyone wants to try it.

On Draught I suggest the Chimay White, a very nice ale. On combinations go for the Black and Tan. On bottle go with the Newcastle. If you like Scotch, go with the Oban.
Thanks! :D I've heard very good things about Chimay; it's one of the ones I've been meaning to try.
I tried one of their other combinations...I think it's called spider bite or black widow on there (don't quite recall). It was sweet, but very good...the only problem was the massive hangover it gave me :cover: Although I think that was due to the sweetness.
Haven't tried Newcastle yet, I look forward to it :D And I do indeed like scotch, although when I drink it, it's usually at a different bar around here. Although I'll keep an eye out for it when I go! :D

I don't mind asking the bartenders, I just like getting other inputs as well :D Most suggestions I've gotten from friends have been fabulous.
I think it's pretty cool that you brew your own! You're making me thirsty

My mainstay beers consist of Guinness Draught in cans, Pilsner Urquell, Fat Tire, and Lagunitas IPA. Depending on the occasion, I enjoy a nice bottle of Guinness Extra Stout, though it demands respect, as well as Arrogant B*stard.

Corona and lime is a summer staple, of course.

Anybody got a good beer bread receipe? This is an example from the internet but if you've got a good personal one I'd love to see it.

From Lazy Irish Beer Bread Recipe : Recipezaar
Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self rising flour
  • 12 ounces room temperature beer (the better the beer, the better the bread. I use Harps beer made by Guiness in Dublin)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
Directions

  1. Hand mix all ingredients only until well mixed (do not beat or use a mixer).
  2. Put mixture into a greased loaf pan.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375º F degrees.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes.

Oooooo I likes me some Arrogant B*stard! Kicked my butt the first time I had it and I've been a big fan ever since.
That sounds like a good description of La Fin Du Monde. :D

Stellify: any of the Unibroue beers on that list are worth checking out. That'd be these:

- Don De Dieu ("Gift from God")
- La Fin Du Monde ("The End of the World")
- Maudite ("Damned")
- Trois Pistoles

Unibroue beers tend to be rather similar in character, though, so I'd say you don't really need to try more than one... unless they get Ephemre in - it's apple flavoured and quite nice.
