The Best Vocalists

Despite my own tendencies towards Chris Cornell I have to say that Freddie Mercury is the best male vocalist I've ever heard.

His improvisations before singing Queen tunes in front of audiences and his studio performances show that he is the best male vocalist to beat. I also think his performances from "The Must Show Go On" and 'These Our the Days" exemplifies his range in singing until his death.

A blessed voice that brought so much joy to so many people.

Chris and Loreena McKennitt.

Listening to Dante's Prayer alone looking at out the ocean boundaries and hearing her outfelt call to her own to her own fiance in that song lost to the sea I can think of no other song with such heart felt soul longing.

So yes. I will say that actually Loreena McKennitt is the best vocalist never mind any technical talent. Those pop artists have nothing on such soulful lyrics that Loreena has produced with such delivery.

But hey.

Don't forget Geoff Tate.

Frubals to anyone who knows that name without checking the internet. Honor code in effect.

Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry, Miseration, Solution .45)
Michael "Jag" Jagmin (A Skylit Drive)
Elvis
Michael Poulsen (Volbeat)
Arlene Smith (the Chantels; I would argue that she had the greatest voice of all the '50s/'60s girl group singers; she was classically trained and performed at Carnegie Hall at 12; she was only about 15 or 16 when the Chantels made their biggest hits)
Diana Ross
Debbie Harry
Davey Havok (AFI, Blaqk Audio - I have their older material in mind; Sing the Sorrow was his vocal peak)
Danzig
Nick 13
Pavarotti
Maria Callas
Edith Piaf
Tina Turner
Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Enya
Howard Jones (ex-Killswitch Engage, Blood Has Been Shed, Devil You Know)
Till Lindemann (Rammstein)
Milan Fras (Laibach)
Elize Ryd (Amaranthe)
Alissa White-Gluz (the Agonist)
Lauryn Hill
Tracy Chapman
Boy George
Klaus Nomi (it's a tragedy that he seems not be to really remembered; he was one of the best operatic countertenors there ever was; a damn shame his career was cut so short)
Slyvester (another amazing vocalist whose career was cut far too short)
Rob Halford
Ronnie James Dio
Brian Molko (Placebo)
Tyler Carter (Woe, is Me, Issues)
Jonny Craig
Tarja Turunen
Harry McVeigh (White Lies)
Agent M (ex-Tsunami Bomb, the Action Design; she wowed me on the Action Design's EPs)
Brody Dalle (ex-Distillers, Spinnerette)
Shirley Manson (Garbage)
Gwen Stefani (No Doubt)
Chibi (the Birthday Massacre)
Jeremy Camp

(I left Tom Delonge off this list. He's one of my favorite people ever, but he's really not that great of a singer. Lol.)

I've always liked Robert Plant's voice. Willie Nelson also has a good set of pipes, as does Ray Charles. Oh, and Freddie Mercury. :D
