I can tell you that 44 is not that bad, either. Amazingly my heart still beats and my veins haven't congealed! Happy Birthday, and remember that nations rise and fall and are but as grass, and the beauty of the rose fails.

You think FORTY is the Big One???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

PS: Hope you have many, many....MANY more....:)

Well it's kind of an inside joke.

Many moons ago at 17 my close friend and I contemplated life n such. We looked ahead to 40 years old and thought "No way in heck is it even possible we are making it to 40!" Well 2 blinks of an eye later here we is.

A dearly departed friend of mine once told me that you spend the first half of your life trying to kill yourself everyday, and the second half of your life just trying to stay alive one day longer.

I am starting to see how that is true now.

Just wait until you get into your 70's like me. Staying alive is a mission. And, another truth of one's "age" is that old age is at least 20 years older than you are at least until the 80's or 90's.

All I can say right now is that being old is FAKE news.

Happy birthday and many more.

I recently turned 38, and 28 still feels like yesterday.
I just passed 62 and 28 doesn't seem all that long ago.

I remember one time as a wee sprite I was chatting to my grandad about how fast the year had gone by. I was about 10. He said, "Wait until you are looking back over decades." My eyes just bugged out.

@Enoch07 Glad to hear you had an excellent day. 40 was a bit of a crisis for me as then I knew I was on the cusp of middle-age. Don't let it bring you down though.

At 62 I still don't feel old though I do scare myself when I get out of the shower. "Who the hell are you and how did you get in here? Why are you looking at me like that?"

Congratulations, Enoch! What words of wisdom have you learned in your 40 thrilling years on this rock? Care to tell us any?

I get that feeling already. I recently came across a photo of my friends wedding day, 2 months after high school graduation.

I was a lean mean 6ft 250lbs fighting machine, with long flowing beautiful locks of shoulder length golden hair.

Now I wake up to this....bald....monstrosity!

Hmm sure I have a couple.

1. Beware how much Ginger root you use when cooking. A little goes a long way.

2. The best thing you can do for yourself, to better your own life, is to conquer your own ego. The quicker you slay that beast the quicker you can find happiness.

3. Learn how to pick and chose your battles strategically in life. This means throwing the fight or not engaging at all, even when you have upper hand. Whether it's debating a topic here, or arguing with one of your children over a household issue or whatever.

4. Find someone to love with all your might. This does not have to be romantic love, although it could be. I have given up on that though.

The love between a parent and child is by far the strongest love imo. Even if you are not physically capable of having children you should adopt. Raising children is the hardest thing you can even do, but it is also the most rewarding if done right. And never take them for granted. Don't ask me what the right way to parent is though. The only rule I ever followed was to consider what my biological father would have done in any situation, and then do the opposite of that. While this rule has served me well, it doesn't help an outsider at all.

I could go on all day but that is a couple of the most important lessons I have learned so far.
