The Birth of a Faith

200 years ago on 29th October a child was born who's was destined to become the Bab (Gate). In 1844 that destiny unfolded in a declaration to the first believer, Mullá Husayn.

The events surrounding this life and this declaration, are the stories found behind all Faiths.

The life of and the wisdom given by the founder, becomes the way of life for millions of people all searching for truth about the purpose of life.

What we can discuss here is the purpose of Faith. What do you see as your purpose, given in your Faith?

I will start with a thought. I see our given purpose is to know and love God. To do that we must know and find all the good within our own selves.

Knowledge of God requires that all the good is converted to action, that we then serve each other in Love and Justice.

There are many tangents to consider.

Tony, I do not have faith, not had since I was about 12; but my life has great purpose.
I have children and grandchildren who all give me great pleasure. I have other family and friends that I know and interact with; I have work colleagues that I spend much time with.
I have no need for religion, science and reason makes so much more sense to me. I look forward to most days and life is wonderful and I value every moment. I have just lost a very dear friend and will be attending her funeral on Friday - I'm not looking forward to it.

Those seeking a 'purpose' in life seem to find it only after the fact.

I lost a true friend this week as well. It was great joy for me as he lived a full life, and was more than ready to move on. Disease and age had taken him over. Not all transitions are so easy for the watchers.

Again, no one can tell you what your "purpose" in life is until after the fact. Obviously the only "purpose " in life is strictly self defined.

Hi Tony,

The whole narrative about a God who is concerned for His Creation and humanity is one that resonates deeply. I’ve grown up with Christianity and the story of Christ’s tragic ministry culminating in His crucifixion is profound and touching. For God so loved the world He send His only begotten Son (John 3:16).

In many respects the story of the Bab parallels that of Christ in some respects completely eclipses it. The message of the Bab is much clearer and relevant to the modern era for humanity. The historicity of the Bab has a much stronger foundation given it was only two hundred years since His birth. The reality of Christ is largely obscured being over two thousand years since His birth. Within the mists of time myth and reality become indistinguishably interwoven.

So for me the story of the Bab is a restatement of the Message of Christ for this day. It echoes central themes of the other major world religions. That’s profoundly meaningful.

The purpose of life is life itself. God created us because he was lonely and it is his purpose and intent to transcend this physical life and enter Heaven when we die to live forever with God. The righteous will enter Heaven. God does not view the world as male or female, black or white, Jew or Gentile. God views the world as wicked or righteous and both of them come in all races, creeds, and colors.

Hm. I found out I'm not really a traditional spiritual person. My mind isn't wired to that sort of discipline and I'm not really looking for spiritual revelations. For some reason, it's just not my thing. So, I balled it down to values: Freedom/Creativity, sexuality/connection, balance/peace/mental clarity, humor/growth/presence.

Instead of a to-do list (future list), I thought a to-be list would be much more helpful.

Life is a circle not a path. One day we will stop walking so it's better to learn and "be" while you walk the path. I know it's repetitive; but, you can't have an end goal/destination and cycle at the same time. So, the best thing we can do is learn how to be.

What that entails is living my values (above), accept surprises, put spirituality and religion aside, and. just. be.

Yeah. I can't remember where I got that from. After so many experiences of trying to plan things from something little to big my ADD brain just gives up and says, "what can I do now for myself that doesn't depend on what may or may not be in the future."

Try it out. On your to-do list write a to-be list. "To day I will be grateful" so everything you do doing the day, you are already being.

We only get one chance at life after death. We are all judged when we die. The righteous will participate in the resurrection of the dead and they will live on earth forever.

Belief is an aspect of the metabolic process of the universe and those who live here.

I see we only live in the flesh on this earth once and we die. The body to be no more.

I see that to be born again is to realise we are spirit and true life is fruits of the Spirit. That is why acceptance of Christ is being born again.

The key to that birth is that Christ is all the Messengers from God and not just one called Jesus of Nazareth. The flesh amounts to nothing it is the Spirit that gives life.

The birth of new Faith is that God gives the Holy Spirit, Annoints 'Christ' God's chosen Messenger in each age. They all appear to be born of women, but they are born of God. That is the truth behind the virgin birth.

All the Best Susan, as today is very special, it was 200 years ago today that the Bab (Gate) was born. The Bab ushered in the Day of God, the day all Christianity still awaits.

I lost a true friend this week as well. It was great joy for me as he lived a full life, and was more than ready to move on. Disease and age had taken him over. Not all transitions are so easy for the watchers.

As we age and reach our later years, these moments are more often in our lives.

I also live in a native community where the lifestyle choices have shortened many people's longevity of life expectation.

Many friends much younger and of my age are no longer here. I still wish them all the best in what they can be.

Likewise to you, no matter how we each see the journey head, All the best Vinayaka.
