I hope we can make it so, before the machines outsmart us! If that whole technological singularity thingie happens, we will wind up being servants to the machines, not integrated into them! And it will be Sarah Conner time!

With the current rate of development, how long before we become the Borg?
Well, seeing as the vast majority of the population already has the Borg mindset, it seems to me that it merely the technology that is holding us back.

I give it about another 200 years.

I would venture that it won't be that long, methinks maybe 60-120 years.

Soon as we all chose to become Willie Nelson.

I agree. We don't need technology to make us mindlessly conform, why build technology to impose such when the majority of humanity already does so?

You guys need to have more faith in mankind. When the poo finally hits the fan, people do stand up. There many of us who simply will not "be assimilated". Now, on the other hand, I do question the wisdom of giving self-awareness to machines. You don't need to be a Sci-Fi fan to realize that could be a potential disaster.

You are looking at it wrong! Just imagine when we can elect our first Borg world leader with the slogan...
"Locutus, so you always have someone else to blame."

I will never become the Borg, because all the Borg are bald, and there is no way in hell I am shaving my head. Plus, the Borg Queen is freaking creepy and she always hits on everybody. *shutters*

If we do develop the Borg in my life time, I wonder who I'd be more like when fighting them. Picard had the nice speeches but went a little ax crazy. Worf kicked *** and had some nice one liners, but would get a little too gung ho with the close combat at times.

Star Trek, especially the first run on TV, is always attempting to tackle social considerations, like racism in the "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" episode.

One could easily think that the Borg is tackling the lemming-like attitude of those on the far right and far left, following whoever comes down the lane almost blindly merely because of the letter they carry in front of their name, and the inherent danger such an unquestioning mentality contains.
