Here's an interesting article. Page 412 actually contains a header about how the transition from non amniotic amphibian eggs to amniotic lizard eggs occured through losing the water permeability of skin that amphibians have. So there's the answer to how eggs evolved, with no question dodging. Let me know if you have any other questions about the nature of evolution, I'll do my best to answer them.
One thing I feel bears repeating is that evolutionary theory makes no statements about the existence of god. Many of the people here who accept evolutionary theory are, themselves, theists.

They were all starved 'till one said a prayer. Then god sent them a nanny with a credit card whilst he constructed a Tesco's with a delivery service around the corner.
The Nanny said a prayer about hungry crying children and whoomph god gave her an internet connection.
Before you could snap your fingers they were all saying grace before meals and no one ever wondered about anything again.

Athiesm is about more than that. if you must know about your chicken and egg, during evelution (yes i know you said that we all lean on that as an excuse) the first human was born from a chimp. it was after years and years of changing the DNA of different types of species that led to us being born. any questions?

Evolutionary theory does not posit that the first human babies simply magically appeared. All forms of sexual reproduction (that is, reproduction through sharing DNA between two organisms) require an organism to have two parents. All mammals reproduce sexually, so every human had two parents.
