The Cycle of Violence: how do we stop it?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Yeah, words are cheap. I doubt you can launch a limited attack to cripple their will to fight and a full scale attack is in effect a long war. But yes, if you want a war, you could win it. And then maybe create new enemies in the process.
It's what they did in ww2 and it's the way it will be.

You break their will to fight and cripple their ability to continue, which is historically a proven fact by those who actually fought those wars and that philosophy is not my own , but it's from people who actually know what they're talking about and had proven it is the way to achieve a victory over one's enemies.

"We" as in humanity as a whole, as a collective species.
Humanity is a political construct, not a species. Transcending the human condition is part of the solution for violence.

The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
O YHWH, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! [even] cry out unto thee [of] violence, and thou wilt not save!
Habakkuk 1:1-2

I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
And YHWH answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make [it] plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Behold, his soul [which] is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, [he is] a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and [is] as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
Habakkuk 2:1-5

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17

How do we stop this? Any bright ideas?
Yes, the acceptance that we are one human race living together on one planet, called earth. All the National boundaries will be set in stone, and no Nation will be allowed to rise up against another Nation.

This is part of the Solution given in the Message by God through the Bab and Baha'u'llah. They came to establish an age of peace and ultimately gave us the guidance to establish the Lesser Peace, after humanity had rejected the Most Great Peace.

I need not debate the wisdom of those peace giving words, as peace can only be found by the implementation of them.

So you want to start a total war in an age of nuclear weapons with a country that in effect has those.

Iraqi militia group injures American troops today. The US will surely respond with a drone strike or something.

Israel detonated a bomb in Iran. Iran vows to attack Israel in return. Israel vows retaliation to any attack.

Each side responds with an attack. The response to the response is another attack. This goes on indefinitely.

How do we stop this? Any bright ideas?
We all have to learn to forgive.

I remember some people during the Cold War who believed that a nuclear war was winnable.

I suppose if one plans it well enough and is able to launch a massive pre-emptive first strike and hope that it's quick and devastating enough in the first blow to prevent or reduce any enemy counterattack, then it's theoretically possible. It's a huge gamble, in addition to enormous environmental damage and human casualties resulting from large radioactive clouds covering much of the Eurasian continent. We might lose a city or two in the process, but we might be able to survive relatively intact.

Of course, it's unconscionable and unthinkable to even ponder the notion, but I'm sure there are some people who are paid to think about these things.

But the bottom line is that there seems to be a belief that if we could eliminate all of our enemies, who are perceived to be the cause of global strife and war, then there would be no more war. Essentially, the idea that world conquest and world domination lead to a peaceful and orderly world.

What if America conquered the whole world? The entire world would be comprised of states in the United States of Earth. (Or we could just change the name of the planet to "America" and make everyone an American by default.) ;)

So you weren't trained in how to plan for and conduct massive first strikes. And evaluate if it can be done with success?!!
Not personally , but I've been around those who do. You learn if you listen to the experts, and the military has enough of them where they try hard to instill those qualities into their subordinates to help prepare them for the real deal if such an event happens.

Yeah, that is not the same as it would work.

Have we tried more violence?
Yes. More violence ended WW2 and saved the many many more people that would have died had the war continued, as well as stopped the advance of Nazism and Japanese imperialism that sought to take over the world. An end to the holocaust was also a good unintended consequence.

I also found that giving my kids Kung Fu lessons substantially decreased the bullying of them at school.
