The Death of the Liberal Class

When your options are ****** Candidate #1, and ****** Candidate #2, the decision has already been made for you. At that point voting is, at best, symbolic and at worst only enforcing the status quo.
I will vote when I see someone worth voting for.
That's why I vote for the true liberals, ie, the Libertarians.
We're the only ones who let you marry whom you want, keep most of your money, avoid the draft, avoid paying people
to kill each other over religion & oil, let you speak your mind, let you abort parasitic life forms, & keep government
out of your business so long as you mind your own. Dems & Pubs are both parties of statism, but with different labels.
We're losers & proud of it!

The thing is, Liberals only consist of about 20% of the voters.

Moderates make up about 40% and decide the elections.

If you ran a true liberal candidate, would you get the moderate vote?

Enough to win an election?

Nope. That's why the republicans keep losing. They're pitching their platform to extremists on the far right wing. No matter how crazy you really are, you have to at least pretend to see the appeal of moderation in order to win an election.

Look at our prime minister - loony as a northern lake, but keeps doing better and better because he won't let anybody in his party talk to the media without a script, and the script always says "hey, we're super-normal! We like facts and science and human rights and the environment and social services and women and all that airy fairy liberal crap, just like you!" When you are a conservative extremist, you aren't supposed to mention what you actually intend to do until after the election.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
People think the president has more power than he actually does. Obama isn't responsible for all of that, and even if he were, he doesn't have the power to do anything about it. It's in Congress' hands. Obama can make statements about what he would like, but as has been made so painfully clear, he can't make them do what he wants.

As for the position that the President actually does occupy, I think Obama has precisely the sort of personality I want for a person in his position: intellectual, methodical, presentable, steady. If the Republicans weren't hell bent on destroying Obama and the government, in that order, this presidency would be marked for its bipartisanship.

I truly fail to see how not voting can accomplish anything.

Voting dosent seem do much either.

LOL keep losing you say? Since Obama was elected, we are batting 500.

Obama elected with full majority in House and Senate after 8 years of Bush.

Midterm elections, to quote Obama, (We took a shellacking).

Obama gets second term.

Where are the Liberals here?

Who is really losing?

It's not up to the 20% Liberals nor the 40% Conservatives.

IT IS THE MODERATES WHO DECIDE.

They don't care for either party and have no loyalty to either side.

Just like everyone else, they vote for whom ever is going to make their life easier or who they just happen to agree with at any given time.

Tick Tock the pendulum moves both ways back and forth.

Here is a real frigging bleak view of the government. I believe that America is a Plutocracy. Even the democratic "liberals" that run are more conservative than they need to be. The people that run the government are the ones that can buy it. Not all of the politicians are in the pocket of the ones pulling the strings but enough to make sure that they can't get anything done to fix messes they make.

A good example of this is how we constantly have people complaining about how we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. This is true. However no one actually has to pay that rate. The people who have made this extremely complicated tax structure was none other than extremely wealthy benefactors that hire lobbyists to sneak in legislation.

The high tax rate (which is nothing but a sham) is there to disguise the fact that no one pays any taxes on the high end corporate rate. It is then used as a wedge to lower other taxes. Now taxes are at an all time low for upper income individuals, corporate tax rates are very high but no one pays them so it really doesn't mean anything other than an empty number, and no one does anything to fix them.

I know this sounds like Liberitarian bullcrap but its not. The proposed ideas they put forward are even worse than what we already have. A simpler tax code with zero loopholes where all corporations pay 100% of their corporate tax rate is the way to go. Flat tax is literally stupid.

But back on topic that is one good example I have of how our Psudo-Republic Plutocracy ruins everything. George Carlin knew this and spoke about it often in his stand up. I've already seen a few of his memes in this thread.

The only cure for this is an extremely educated voter caucus that can differintiate between partisan propaganda and actual facts, truth and reason.

So long as the people with high amounts of money that do invest large quantaties into conservative propaganda we won't have a powerful liberal force in America that stands for real taxation, socialization of basic necessities and better education for all and not the lucky few.

So I agree that the actual power of liberal America is nothing but a hollow corpse with only a feigned presence in our government. This is actually worse because it's front looks like its fighting the good fight when in reality it isn't.

Though I reserve this for true liberal efforts. Not the slightly left moderate efforts.

/end rant
