The Dream interpretation Thread

I think there was a similar thread to this in the Pagan DIR, but I thought it would be nice to have one that anybody could post in.

So use this thread to post about dreams you've had and if you know anything about dream interpretation, have a go at deciphering people's dreams.

So... Let's get this thread going.

Last night I dreamt that I was sat in a seminar with a group of people who were about to die. The lecturer was explaining all the different afterlifes available, all of which were heavenly in some way (rolling fields, an eternity of peace etc) and I explained to the lecturer that I couldn't be a part of this afterlife since I would be going to Hell.
The lecturer protested, saying that nobody was foul enough to go to Hell, at which point I proved my point by picking up various fruits and plants and breathing on them. My breath came out as a white mist which caused the fruits to rot and blacken. I explained that my breath would steal the life from any living thing and that I would most definitely be going to Hell, then I woke up.

It would probably depend on how you felt when you were having the dream or after you woke up. If I was to hazard a guess I would say it was about your desire to get people to take you seriously.

Of course it could be a bad tooth ;)

Funnily enough, I have a sore throat at the minute and that was my first thought of what it could have been ;)

I didn't feel any different when I woke up, though during the dream I was quite depressed.

I hope someone else shows up, I love peoples dreams, probably because I very seldom dream myself.

I rarely remember my dreams, but when I do... hoo, boy!

I once dreamed that everyone I knew was a hot pink smurf living under my bed. We were at war with the dust bunnies, who were actually rabbit-shaped with little scraps of metal for BIG SHARP TEETH.

Have fun. :D

Hmm this is a tough one.

The main thing about smurfs I guess is that the are all pretty sexless, whereas bunnies are known for there sexual prowess, perhaps conflicting feelings in this regard.

Or did you ingest some dodgy spicy food :)

I can't even begin to imagine what Freud would dream up about that one!

I'm tempted to suggest that it's probably just random bits of memory and thought taking a roughly coherent form rather than an expression of your feelings. If it does say anything about your personality, the closest I can think of is that it suggests an inclination towards tidiness (since you were at war with the dust bunnies and because they were vicious looking).

To be honest though, whether you're tidy or not, I doubt this dream is a reflection of personality.

I rather hope you're right. :D

Does anyone have any good recommendations for books on the subject? Dictionaries, interpretation guides, etc? My sister's been asking for something like that and I don't have a clue what might even be considered reliable.

"I would most definitely be going to Hell - then I woke up.

My guess is that you are already in Hel. :)

That said, I normally caution people from putting their dreams up, for all to see. What most don't realize is how much their dreams reveal about themselves. Often it is more than they may be comfortable with. Think of it as revealing what is potentially very personal information within a dramatic camouflage.

Personally, I don't recommend people go into books of this kind as they often give a highly distorted interpretation of the dreamscape. Tell your friend, that if she writes her dreams down, fresh, upon awakening, then later the same day, spends 20-30 analyzing her recent dreams, she will eventually begin to distill their meaning(s).

It's true that dreams give away a lot about your personality, but considering it takes a certain level of know-how to decipher them and that the forum allows a degree of anonynmity, I'm comfortable allowing people that glimpse into who I am ;)

With regards to already being in Hell, it's a possibility, I suffer from PTSD and while I've become quite good at keeping it in check, it can still hit me in dreams and flashbacks from time to time.

My dreams now are pretty lame. One time I had a dream where all of my clothes fell into the bath tub, and I was sad because they were all messy and wet now. I've had that dream at least twice actually, and it's funny because in the dream, ALL of my clothes end up in the bathtub. Like, my entire collection of clothes in my closet. Another recent one mostly involved a lot of cute puppies on some grass. It was peaceful. A lot of them are about normal days where nothing weird happens. For instance, a dream might involve me driving to work.

My dreams as a child were darker. One of them involved a bunch of soldiers in prison being shot execution style by the enemy. Another one involved me in a mental institution where they wouldn't let me out of a straight jacket.

The only dream involving religion of any sort that I can recall was a recurring dream when I was a child. In the dream, someone I knew was sent to hell by god, and I protested it. Then god said I could exchange myself for this person, and I would endure eternal torture in exchange for his freedom. So then I would have to sit there and decide what to do.

I'm pretty comfortable with it. I kind of acknowledge that I'm a little crazy, actually.

Maybe I'll get her a dream journal then. :) She's only 13 so I think she just wanted something like this for fun anyway.

Had an interesting one last night. I was moving various little fish from one tank into another using my hands. i caught most of them easily and just plopped them into the other tank, until I came to the last one. It was a jet black angelfish and as I was thinking of picking it up with my hands it turned into a tiny black Manta ray. I realised if I picked it up with my hands I'd be stung, so I grabbed a net and used that. It kept avoiding the net, but in my dream I knew that eventually i would catch it.
