THE ENFORCERS ARE COMING..... FOR OLDBADGER!

The Enforcers are coming for oldbadger

In Britain we have to buy a licence (£145.50 per annum) to watch any television programmes.
Before she died, my elderly mother did not have a telly, because she could not see well enough, but one year the telly enforcers picked on her unlicensed address and started the threats. She would read their letters with her 10X lens, slowly discovering that she had ten days to pay up before the enforcers would come. She would show me these letters, 'I'm going to get fined! I haven't got a thousand pounds! I'm scared!' She was 94yrs. I wrote to the BBC HQ with no reply. I wrote to our national Old People's Charity but they did nothing. Thousands of elderly and infirm folks who don't have a telly must be put through this crap each year.

Despite buying a tv licence, this year oldbadger was chosen for the enforcement procedure. Clearly their computers don't work or they would know.
The letters started in the early spring. Each letter gets more threatening and psychological pressures intensify. Some members will be thinking 'Why doesn't stupid oldbadger just make a phone-call?' Answer: I want to see just how far these bully-boys will go ....... just how frightening are they?

The 'We have opened an investigation' letter arrived in the summer.
Late summer saw 'You will be liable to a fine of £1000 and you will still need to purchase a television licence.'
Early autumn 'Application is being made at this time for a warrant to gain entry to your premises.'
I reached the 'A hearing is set at your local Court' stage in September.
October saw two letters,. a 'We have no alternative but to....' letter and a 'You will now have to pay legal costs as well as the £1000 fine and the telly licence'.
November has seen the '10 days or else' letter and the 'full Enforcement process visit' letter.
I have just received the 'We will be coming soon after 11th December!' letter

Mrs B wants to be the one to open the door to the Enforcers and wants photographs of Enforcer's ID Cards and the office address of Enforcement manager H--es who signed all this rubbish. The Enforcers? As long as they behave we will be polite but they will have to remain outside. But the berks who drive this policy need to answer some pressing questions....... in front of the media. That is where this is going...... if not to a County Court.

Enforcers as in... GULP... those who beat people up at bars entrances?

:fearscream:

Wait, isn't it already easy for people to find out if a house can get a TV signal?

I suggest making a..... erm, dunno what's it called... you know, a paper full of signatures as complaint, then send it to the authorities?

How about just not paying and once they come you tell them to look for themselves that there is no TV set in home?

But seriously, taxes even on TV signals?

Used to be the same system in my country. We didn't have a TV set for years so I had to deal with these guys three times. When you opened the door they asked if they could have a look and before you could answer they were already inside looking for a TV. Illegal but no doubt that was what they were told to do.

Ya know.....it was a relief to read about your troubles with Johnny Law, Badge. My first thought was that the mods were after you. You could'a been banned! But instead, you'll just have armed storm troopers beating you up & looting your bank account for not watching the BBC. Oh, the joys of creeping socialism & Big Government!

Hey, does this mean you don't watch Downton Abbey?

I thought this was a joke at first, my first thought was since pounds was noted as the currency it might be the U.K. but even then I couldn't imagine it has become that tyrannical though anything is possible since even here in the U.S. Obama is now threatening all sorts of tyrannical unconstitutional unilateral "executive actions" that are effective taxes on the middle class of which now include threats of government control and taxes on the internet.

But then checking U.K. law, this outrage is in fact true, the law (regulation) is:

"You must to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder."

The current cost is £145.50 for colour and £49.00 for a black and white TV Licence! THIS IS EVERY FRIGGIN' YEAR! That would be $227 dollars a year in the U.S.! Tell that to the looters in Fergville, that they have to pay $227 dollars a year to watch themselves loot and shootout store front glass doors with handguns live on "TV" or go to jail, then they would have something legit to riot and loot about.

Would Obama exempt American Indians if he issues a "TV license" executive order here in the U.S.? How about if you run over the Mexican border, do you get an amnesty from the license? Do businesses such as sports bars get a $3000 dollar incentive not to pay the license if they hire Obama's favorite illegal aliens instead of citizens?

It clarifies that it is not only "watching TV" (think about it, what does the acronym TV - they don't even use periods such as T.V.! - stand for? Television! yet look at these words in the "regulation"/"license" which is just another word for tax):

"A TV Licence is not just for TV sets. Watching TV on the internet: You need to be covered by a licence if you watch TV online at the same time as it's being broadcast on conventional TV in the UK or the Channel Islands. Mobile phones: A licence covers you to watch TV as it's broadcast on a mobile phone, whether you're at home or out and about."

My God, SOCIALISM SUCKS! These S.O.B.s, what the???

I have relatives in the U.K., I am going to ask about this .... so if I am visiting the U.K. and watch "TV" on my laptop, I am a criminal if I don't pay someone 145 pounds! Doesn't say "citizens only", just says "watching TV".

This is Taliban taxation - it is some notion that human activity even the act of watching "TV" is some judgement call that government has the better elitist vision and right to tell you it belongs to them and you owe them money for the privilege. This is sick! So if there is a national emergency, I have to pay big money just to hear the government tell me about it live on a broadcast?

Oh how nice, you can set up a "payment plan" and pay part of your yearly tax in monthly or even weekly installments. And how politically corect, you can read about the regulation and set up payments in the following languages:

General information about TV Licensing is available in the following languages:
Cymraeg বাংলা Polski ગુજરાતી Türkçe हिन्दी Soomaali اردو Русский язык 中文 Português ਪੰਜਾਬੀ Español العربية Français Ελληνικά
© 2014 TV Licensing

Screw socialism. Obama will do this next.

Aren't you glad we kicked their arsches out in 1812? The last thing we need on top of all our other problems is a bunch'o cockney accented fops in powdered wigs demanding money so they can produce a Benny Hill memorial TV show.

Free markets rule!
Socialists drool!

What a fun thread this is.

Good luck in taking care of this. Sounds stressful.
It sounds like fun to me. Badge seems to revel in stick'n it to The Man too.

I get regular threats from Michiganistan that they'll prosecute me if I don't return my business census form (divulging race, religion, etc) to them. I circular file the forms & letters. Let'm try to prosecute. Me personal information is me own...not theirs. No stress...just the joy of righteous indignation.

We're waiting for them to come, alright! :)
And no..... their system is obviously unable to identity my address as having a licence, even though I paid online.

Years ago they used to warn a whole town that the detector vans were coming! Strange vans with funny 'RDF' type aerials would arrive and drive slowly around, and hgundreds of people would rush to the post-offices to buy licences! True! The blokes inside the vans probably just drank tea and chatted. I once heard that they didn't actually have any equipment in them at all.

That's what our lot did, until they had their warrants taken away. :)

Ha ha! As I wrote the OP I thought 'B-gger..... Revolting is going to be all over this!'; :p
But our Big Guv did the right thing. They confiscated the Telly-Enforcers' power to enter homes.

Here's another pic of a Television finder van as used in the 50s and 60s. Their mere presence had the non-payers flocking to the post-office for a licence. You couldn't make this stuff up...... could you? :D

I remember this controversy & the snoopy vans prowling for scofflaws. It all looked so Fahrenheit 451ish.

I thought this was a joke at first, ...........

Thankyou for all of your post..... :)
We are used to buying telly licences, but my concern is about how their threatening behaviour can terrify the elderly who do not need a licence and who really believe all the threats. Our elderly persons' charity is useless over this kind of thing. Age Concern could have made a petition to the government about this matter.
