The 'Evil' Mary Poppins...

Since Harry Potter was evil to some, how about Mary Poppins? She blows in on the wind, and through magic, teaches the children. Witchcraft at it's best.

"Evil is in the eye of the beholder" immediately comes to mind. If you look hard enough, you will find something 'not quite right' in anything.

need I say more?

How about Nanny McPhee

or, better yet,

The Chronicles of Narnia - this last is apparently an allegory of Christian beliefs, but there seems to be plenty of magic in the series. (I knew it! That Ansalon is going straight to HELL!!!)

This is a great point jeffery. But, more than the magic practiced by Mary Poppins, it is her totally subversive message that children (and their parents) aught to beware of. For goodness sake, she thinks that children should use their tuppence to buy crumbs from the pigeon lady, rather than put them in the bank where they can compound interest! She thinks it's better to associate with chimney sweeps, and she is certainly saying something about the women's suffrage movement.

Now that I think about it, it's not Mary Poppins, but Julie Andrews. Think of it, as a supposed 'Nun' in The Sound of Music she disobeys the father of the household and encourages the children to sing and play. She then seduces the father and together they resist the authority of Austria (so what that the authority happened to be Nazis, isn't it better to be a good citizen?).

And what about that Victor/Victoria thing...

Harry Potter, move over.

It's because Harry Potter has nothing whatsoever to do with Disney...

Oh yes, and Disney is the saint of all movie companies. :biglaugh: I actually heard somewhere that an offshoot of their company produces porn films. :biglaugh:

I remember when all this criticism for Harry Potter came about. the Christian Research Jounal had an article about it's criticism and even The Lord of the Rings movies. The basic point of the article was that when one considers the moral lessons given in the movies and how the "witchcraft" in these movies are truly science fiction and not a valid representation of true witchcraft, there is not one Biblical problem with these movies at all. I like how someone brought up the Chronicles of Narnia in this thread which were written by a well noted Chritian author that would be commended by the same people who attempt to criticize the movies mentioned in this post. Any attempts at criticism of these movies comes from true ignorance of what real witchcraft is and what these movies are really trying to promote. I have children and have seen all the Harry Potter movies and really enjoyed them and was impressed at the moral lessons presented in these movies. I am looking foward to a new one and there better be one darn it!!! there was just too much left to be continued and I just don't have time to read the books. As far as Mary Poppins goes, it's just a little too girly and kidish for my tastes.

Sincerely,

By "girly and kidish" you meant "evil" - right?
