So Harry Potter is evil but the rest are okay because they are Disney? :disco: Rock on! :biglaugh:

Who do you think it is that's starting all the bad rumours about Harry Potter? :looks suspiciously side-to-side:

The Chronicles of Narnia - this last is apparently an allegory of Christian beliefs, but there seems to be plenty of magic in the series. (I knew it! That Ansalon is going straight to HELL!!!)

Nah, Aslan's just a lion and therefore has no soul to send to HELL... :fork:

(I just had to try out that new smiley.)

Now that I think about it, it's not Mary Poppins, but Julie Andrews. Think of it, as a supposed 'Nun' in The Sound of Music she disobeys the father of the household and encourages the children to sing and play. She then seduces the father and together they resist the authority of Austria (so what that the authority happened to be Nazis, isn't it better to be a good citizen?).

And what about that Victor/Victoria thing...

Harry Potter, move over.

Hey, Julie Andrews showed her real colors when she was in Peter Pan...as a cross dresser. (pffft!)

But what do you expect from a thespian?

I remember when all this criticism for Harry Potter came about. the Christian Research Jounal had an article about it's criticism and even The Lord of the Rings movies. The basic point of the article was that when one considers the moral lessons given in the movies and how the "witchcraft" in these movies are truly science fiction and not a valid representation of true witchcraft, there is not one Biblical problem with these movies at all. I like how someone brought up the Chronicles of Narnia in this thread which were written by a well noted Chritian author that would be commended by the same people who attempt to criticize the movies mentioned in this post. Any attempts at criticism of these movies comes from true ignorance of what real witchcraft is and what these movies are really trying to promote. I have children and have seen all the Harry Potter movies and really enjoyed them and was impressed at the moral lessons presented in these movies. I am looking foward to a new one and there better be one darn it!!! there was just too much left to be continued and I just don't have time to read the books. As far as Mary Poppins goes, it's just a little too girly and kidish for my tastes.

Lord of the Rings was written by Tolkien, an equally well known Christian and friend of Lewis. Tolkein's RCC roots show the most in some of the tales in Silmarillion.

If it's not "real witchcraft," then is the pantheon in Silmarillion tales not really a pantheon?

(In fact, the "gods" are more like archangels to the One True God Eru (a.k.a. Iluvatar), but that's never stopped anyone from missing the point before. :)

And lastly, I would like to point out that Glinda the Good Witch of the North is obviously a poser, and is really the devil in disguise!

I once actually heard a preacher say that the Smurfs were evil, because ... get this ... they're blue ... and dead people are blue. So, the tenets of twisted logic tell us that smurfs are really dead people, and that we're scarring our children by letting them play with animated dead people. How's that for a stretch?

Uh, does that mean dead people are evil???

"Evil is in the eye of the beholder" immediately comes to mind. If you look hard enough, you will find something 'not quite right' in anything.

need I say more?

I couldn't help but notice, Michel, that when I threw dice to randomly select certain letters in your post, then inserted those letters into my favorite passage of Kurt Vonnegut, a clear, but dark, message emerged: "I eat weasels!" So, I have to ask: Was this intentional on your part? Please respond by owl.

Silly, "Snow" White's fav dwarf was "Dopey." We Can't leave out other classics like, "Bewitched" or "I Dream of Genie." Hey, how about "Fantasia" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice?" Hollywood is just the Devil's media arm ya know.
