The Evil that is Conformity

Renazure

Conformity. Most people uncounsiously conform to their surroundings, eg. the workplace, School and nearly everywhere. It is a shame that in this world the unwillingness to conform carries with it the very real risk of social rejection. If everyone comforms to what everyone else does and what everyone else says what makes us anything dofferent from robots. Individuality is what makes the human world go round.

Can't brain. Has dumb.
when you go to a different country, you begin to adapt to their accents. When you talk to different social classes, you will find your mannerisms mirroring theirs.

It's a natural, normal, and very subconscious effect of being with people. With these two examples at least, it's about changing the way you communicate to make it easier to communicate with those around you.

The fact that this happens shows that we actually are not robots, rather, that we are adaptable, changeable. If we were robot-like, we wouldn't conform.

You can still be your own person, individual from the rest, while conforming in some ways.

I would say that a balance between individuality and conformity makes the world go round. You cannot be fully human without some form of participation in other people's lives. This requires a degree of common currency to work. We also need stability, and we need conformity to get that.

OTOH, we need some individuality to not be robots. I really don't like imitating anyone too much and am rather idiosycratic (as Nate). I have a harder time with conformity than I do individuality.

Also, I've generally noticed that people who make decisions specifically to not conform are generally less creative and actually make fewer legitimately free choices. They are less creative, because they eschew learning what came before them, so what they do becomes dull and repetitive. We must know what has happened to improve on it or change it, and we cannot know this without taking some of it in.

They make fewer free choices, because they actively choose to do the opposite of what others do specifically not to conform. Their decisions are no more free than the people who dance to the same tune. They're just trying to substitute different moves to the same beat.

Balance is the spice of life :)

Conformity is not all bad. In my book, the individual usually comes first, but without some degree of conformity social cooperation would be impossible. And, after all, social cooperation is one of the predominant reasons our species has survived despite the fact we are the least sane of all the great apes.

Are you like one of those Goth kids in South Park?

Well, is there such a thing as individuality? An individual is someone who creates something different, but why do they do that? They do so out of a feeling of inferiority. Are all the people who want to be individuals really just people who want to be accepted?

I think that creative individuals are people who's need for social approval has been agitated by hatred. The hatred comes from others and is internalized and manifests as self hatred, and the self hatred is what drives the need to be unique. Everyone wants to be a unique part of the whole.

But will that really make you feel better?

I don't think that being creative and hatred go hand in hand that easily. while I do agree that creative people in this world are sometimes misunderstood and this could lead to the hatred you are talking about, but to me that sounds a lot like a high school mentality/narrow mindedness.

I think creative people are people who look at what they see in this world and reproduce it.

I also think that the idea of non-conformity is funny because we all have something in common we are human. I see the idea of non-conformity as fighting to not have anything in common with the world around you. so if you are human you already have a connection to the world around you. we could also say that you have been educated with the people who you are trying to be diffrent from and so you already think in some of the same ways as they do.

in the end why not just be good to people and not worry what anyone thinks. its none of your buissness what other people think.
