So, let's jump into it

Most importantly, can a person take a simple straightforward approach to understanding the topic of mathematical forensic analysis that involves the span of time of what could be much longer than 5 or 10,000 years ?

Let's start by dissembling ancient astronomy
They had to have some way to quantify the movement of the heavens in order to keep records, which in turn allowed successful civilizations in the Fertile Crescent to flourish by being able to farm in large scales, hence the name " fertile Crescent "
You can't keep populations growing unless you have food, this is the number one priority { Eating }
With seasonal floods that enrich the land you have an added intricacy with your agricultural calculations requiring astronomy, this is in addition to the various movements of the Sun, Earth, Moon { The " Three body system " in astronomy / physics }
Then you have the movement of the three body system against the backdrop of the universe
If you cannot keep track of these things, you will die out { As an ancient civilization }
Eventually this led to the development of the Stellar, Solar and Lunar calendars, and the intercalations between them
Most folks are only aware of Luni-solar intercalation, which is what the modern Jews rely on to synchronize the Lunar to the Solar calendars, but there is actually a far more complex system of intercalations between the calendars that has been completely lost
Now in order to keep track of these things, you also need the concepts of plane geometry, because the ecliptic of the solar system is tilted from the ecliptic of the galaxy { In addition to axial tilt and obliquity }
Now, the reason that all this " numerology " as it's called was so important in the ancient world, was for the reason that at some point, somebody derived Pi to at least several thousand digits, and as they played with mathematics over time, they realized that there was something very odd about the digits of Pi in base 10
What this was, was a set of mathematical structures that they took as a sign of divine origins
In short, they saw it as a mathematical proof of the origins of all mankind, in other words....who made man
Not just mankind, but the whole universe
That's a pretty strong statement for me to make, and in order for such an intelligent mathematical society to come up with these ideas, they'd have to have known something pretty amazing

It means that if you started playing around with mathematics you would discover the mathematics needed for astronomy before you even did any astronomy
