It is better than putting up with a god or with a devil. Neither is better than the other.
If I go to heaven, there would be no doubt I would be bore out of my spiritual mind, if I can't do what I love. I love mythology and legend, and since I don't know all myths. And part of the fun in such research is not only knowing a particular myth, but discovering for myself. If being in heaven means being perfect, in mind and knowledge, then there are no new mysteries to unravel. Boredom would set in, and the afterlife would quickly become worse than death to me - worse than any punishment in hell.
Beside would a god let me continue to my research in peace? Or would he consider such things to be sin and ban me from this?
What the point of being immortal if life loses attraction for you? What the point of living if you can't grow and learn new things?
