I have always liked them. A lot of various religious writings you have some portions more about common sense ethics, some right perception/vision, some for initiated/esoteric pass-down more or less, and on and on. Just reading about or looking at stuff doesn't tell much of the whole story - it's even harder for people to understand that today.
