In all seriousness, do you guys think that just maybe the rise in information regarding the crimes that have legitimately happened to kids in the past may have caused some to be a tad overprotective?

I mean yeah most parents nowadays wouldn’t let their little kids walk like 6 blocks unsupervised but I don’t know if I would either. One or two and then slowly increase that as a child ages, sure. But I mean people before the internet and 24 hour sensationalist news channels simply didn’t know the potential perils.
I’m not for wrapping kids up in cotton wool or anything. I’m just saying, sometimes parents can get overprotective. In any number of ways.
And there’s usually a “trigger” for that route to be taken

Oh and us millennials ran about outside too. Geez!

I primarily blame the breakup of the nuclear family as both parents were forced out of the home bringing a whole generation of isolated latchkey children who fended for themselves who in turn essentially went off the pier.

People have been saying that since before Socrates.
In English they refer to this as “nostalgia.”

I call it romanticism, which I admit some aspects apply.

I know there were still issues, things were not always easy, but living in those days is not entirely nostalgic givin many stats were recorded to compare with things today.

Well, maybe.
But the Nuclear family concept has happened on and off throughout the centuries. Women often died in childbirth so single fathers raising kids isn’t exactly new age. Neither was employing others to raise them (governesses/nanny’s) or sending them off to boarding school. So the concept of so called “latchkey kids” aren’t a new phenomenon either

So I think every generation tries to overcorrect the perceived faults of their parents.
But certainly the economy has played a part.
