The hellfire belief

Rainbow Mage

Lib Democrat/Agnostic/Epicurean-ish/Buddhist-ish
How can a person hold such a belief and still believe in a good and loving god? Is such a belief not the opposite of goodness and love? To torment a person for all eternity for rejecting belief in him? We might call a parent good for correcting their child when they disobey, but would we call them good if they eternally corrected their child?

I am calling on people here to search their feelings and realize how un-loving and terrible this belief really is. You cannot call this love, it is quite the opposite. If this belief is correct, this is a terrible god to believe in.

Just because you have a lack of understanding of the belief doesn't make it horrible. You keep on complaining about his belief, but are all of yours so much better? Are you really the person to tell others that their God is terrible because of something you don't agree with?

Instead of relying on ignorance, maybe you want to see how rational Christians, who believe in an all loving God, can still adhere to this belief, instead of making the ignorant statement that their god must be terrible.

I hope that there is a hell for people who have caused immeasurable injustices on others.... people who did not receive justice in this life. These are people who committed genocide and other unspeakable crimes.

And yes, that is God loving the oppressed and punishing the wicked. That's what God does, hopefully.

Does any crime a human can commit merit eternal torment? I mean do people really think about eternal torment? Eternal

This is really the only reason I even consider the idea of hell. I've been opposed to the idea of hell, but at the same time, I want there to be one because some people deserve the punishment.

No, I think that God is just and rewards / disciplines us according to what we do.

I don't think that punishment is eternal for those who go to hell. God will do with them what God wants... I suspect that he allows for repentance or after a time of punishment destroys the wicked.

I hope your right

the only problem i see is there is no justice system, its be good or fry in hell

if you go by the bibles rules,,,, i think even good people could fry in hell.

does anyone have a list of offenses that would put one in the eternal fires of hell with the devil poking said person with a hot pitch fork?????????????

Well that's better then the idea of eternal torment anyway. Glad to hear you say that Angellous

Actually I think you would have a hard time really finding much about what will send you to hell.

I've heard very successful arguments, based from scripture, that show that everyone goes to heaven. So a lot of the ideas are based on church teaching and tradition, even though it can also be supported with scripture.

The devil doesn't carry out the justice of God.

It's the presence of God that makes hell so terrible. God holds all the cards - the devil is nothing.

brother I wish you all the luck I can offer with that.

On that note, I can assure you that it will surprise the heck out of me if Christianity is right, there is a God, and that God is good.

Can you imagine the odds?

Heck, I'd be surprised if my eyes opened at all after death and found myself before the god of any religion.
