Does anyone know the history of BDSM? Like, where did it originate, and when was it created?

From what I recall the BDSM we know today most likely came from the good old Marquis de Sade circa 1760 - 1814.

By all accounts he pretty much wrote the book on the genre.

And then I moved in :D

I think there are much older S/m works than Sade's. I can't name any though.

Much of Mediaeval Catholicism comes to mind.

Being a pervie intellectual he was undoubtedly influenced by the Marquis, to an extent.
