Given that Jackson and del Toro are working on this movie, and I'm bored at the moment, I decided to start a discussion.
Tolkien's books are my favorites of fantasy. They were one of my first loves reading The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit while in grade school.
Here is what I hope. I hope that Jackson and del Toro realize Tolkien's dismay at feeling The Hobbit was still talking down to children and that they can take the story to the same level as LOTR.
Also, since McKellen and Serkis are obvious picks to continue the characters of Gandalf and Smeagol I want to know who members would like to see play Bilbo. My first guess is James McAvoy playing Bilbo.
Also, given the rumors that the movie may be split into two movies what aspects of the mythology could they include. The obvious part would be using Tolkien's writings regarding the efforts of Gandalf and Saruman driving Sauron out of Mirkwood.
There is great potential in this movie but also the possibility of great upset given the success of the LOTR movies and the major differences in writing between those and The Hobbit.
But I'm happy del Toro is on board to direct the movie. I'm a big fan Pan's Labyrinth as well as his other movies.
I also notice that the date of release keeps getting pushed back more and more.
