The Holy Land (India)

I used to think Israel was the Holy Land. I realized, the Holy Land is India. I'll explain through pictures. A picture speaks a thousand words.

Do you have a special place in the world, you would like to speak about with pictures and perhaps words?

any memories you would like to share?

The first winter we were there I took an early morning walk along the beach, I saw a guy around 60 and at least 300 lbs in the smallest thong you have ever seen. Over first 3 months we were there, I saw him many times. One day he sat beside me in a beach shack and we talked for at least 3 hrs. He was a professor of philosophy in Berlin. He is an incredible human being, we are still in touch.

It taught me not to judge

The Yogi believes such postures can help separate the spirit from the body.

I agree with the central thesis about India.

The West has traditionally honored explorers, scientists, artists, entrepreneurs and generally all forms of material mastery.

The East, the Indian sub-continent has honored spiritual figures who have renounced the world and practiced various austerities. The images in this thread reflect that.

That "East is East, West is West" dichotomy is breaking down now with India focusing more on material mastery and the West being influenced by waves of various levels of teachers from the East.

"The Holy Land" is everywhere on the Earth where people respect the nature and all it´s life. Most ancient people thought so.

There is no Holy Land imo, any land a saint dwells on becomes holy.

Any holy land concept to me is vestiges on idolatry.

All land is holy - but thinking of a special geographical land is "reserved for gods selected people" is idiotic.

Namaste,

I think to Most Hindu communities in India and outside, India is a Sacred geography, a sacred land.

The ancient towns, rivers, forests, temples and structures are all related to the Dharmah traditions.

The Ramayana for example traces Rama's journey from North of the subcontinent to the Island of Shri Lanka. Sita Mata was born in modern Nepal and ends up on the Island of Shrilanka

Buddha was born in modern day Nepal, but achieved enlightenment in modern day India, Bihar state from memory.

The Mahabharatta list kings from all across the subcontinent participating in the War.

Shivism Extends from Far North kashmir to far south of India.

The places, towns, villages, languages, customs, traditions, peoples mentioned in ancient texts are to be found on all corners of modern India.
