In traditional (read Indian if you wish) there is actually little formal satsang. You get together randomly at the temple, and are in the midst of other devotees, but there is no organisational structure to it.

But satsang has two meanings. One is like a formal worship meeting ... to have a satsang. The other is just the general ... people meeting people, or 'in the company of'

yes , satsang has two meanings , three meanings , many meanings :namaste

primarily to be in the company of the truth , this we can do in many ways , ...

it can mean to be in true company , ..in the company of one who holds the truth and can impart the truth the guru .

to be in the company of like minded souls , to talk and listen to shastra , to engage in worship and to engae the mind in fruitfull activities which make one mindfull of god .

some times we need the company of others to encorage , to inspire , to share , to give and to take , ...... we need all these things at different times and in different ways , some need it more some less , but in truth satsang is not just about our need sometimes we want to give , give praise , give encoragement , give love , ...be joyfull

prayer and worship are another thing , these are a personal part of our relationship with the lord , satsang comes after that when we want to share that mindfullness with others :camp:

sat means good. n sang means group/friendship. so satsang basically means to be in the company of good people.

It is really true. No matter what path we follow, wherever our destinations are, if the people who walk with us are not good, that can prevent us from reaching our goal.

No offense to anybody, but just because a person goes to temple daily, it needn't mean that he/she is good. n just cos a person doesn't believe in god, doesn't mean that he is bad.

A 'sat' person basically knows to respect another even if he doesn't believe in the others' path. has a good understanding of his own strengths n weakness and tries to improve self. n moreover, even if he didnt help anyone, he wouldnt harm anyone.

In one particular jataka tale, Buddha says that 'it is better to be alone for eternity rather than in bad company' and in another he says 'it is always better to have an intelligent enemy than a foolish friend' How true!
