I like Sundays. There is a market in village in the morning. Our local organic veg producer has closed for the winter so it's the next best thing for fresh veg.

Also today is the day of the first winter truffle market held in the village. Sundays become quite busy.. guess who bought a small truffle?

At €900 per kilo it would have to be a small one ;-)

I've only had truffle once and I bought it from ALDI so it probably wasn't a true representation, I made a mushroom omelette which tasted the same as every other mushroom omelette I've made. I would love to try real truffle some time.

Truffle lesson.

There are white and black truffles,. Also summer and winter. Black winter truffles are the best. Black summer truffles are ok but nowhere near black winter truffle. I don't bother with white ones.

It also depends a lot on where they were grown. I am lucky that the truffles from the oak forests of the Perigord noire are among the best in the world.

A single smallish black winter truffle is a multi use fungi. Pop it in an airtight container with rice for a couple of days... Truffle flavoured rice. Then do the same with a few eggs... Truffle flavoured eggs. And so far you haven't used any. Take a quarter, grate it and mix with softened butter, makes bread and butter a gourmand snack. Grate or very thinly slice the rest, sprinkle over tagliatelle, or pizza, fish, potatoes or mix a little with sauces delightful.

Also once you try black truffle ice cream no other ice cream will be good enough.

First free day with the wife gone. Will it be hookers, drugs and booze or a drive to the national park for a walk and grab some seafood on the way home?

I reckon a drive to the national park for a walk and grab some seafood on the way home will see your marriage be much easier and last longer than any or the other choices

How long have you got such freedom for?

3 or 4 months unless they lock the country down again then it might be 2 years. I'll keep an eye on the news and if it looks like happening hopefully she can get a flight and get back in before it happens.
