I go to engine shows where guys live for doing that.
They spend a lot of time & money buying & running
these behemoths...plowing, pulling, & having a great
time. Too bad your acquaintances hated the paying
job that pleases so many who pay to do it.

When we all die, & meet up in Heck, Beelzebub will
have you run my engines. Boooahahahahhahh, etc!

We have them here too, they pull a couple of passenger carriages for an hour or two, 5 or 6 of them in the cab sharing duties and say ahhh the good ole days, I wish I was alive back then. The reality of signing on at 1am to work a fully loaded wheat train from Werris Creek to Port Waratah might be different. It might even give them an appreciation for the diesel electric locomotive.

The problem is working for a living.
Just retire, & do what's fun when you want.
