Internet translators are rubbish!

Try deepl.com.

But i think even that can have a wobbler with ça va?

It has two meanings that don't directly translate and is used in the same conversation that would go.

Person 1: ça va?
Person 2: ça va, ça va, et tu ça va?

Roughly meaning

Person 1: How are you? (Real meaning 'it goes')
Person 2 : ok, ok and how are you? (Real meaning ' it goes, it goes, and you it goes?)

French is so cool.

Bof

I'm hopeless with languages, I tried to learn German in my teens for about 3 years and got no where. Been learning English all my life and still struggling with it.

I'm pretty good with languages, i speak 5 passably once you get around the broad centeal Lancashire accent ;-)

Hubby is useless, weve been in France 7 years and he can hardly manage a word.

My trick, including with English is... You can get by in any language in just 500 words. Learn them and you can hold a good conversation (so long as its not legal or technical)

But can you speak all 5 languages at the same time?

I often do. Easy to mix up

Had the same problem when I tried to learn Mandarin and Cantonese at the same time... only one person could understand me...a good friend of mine from Guangzhou who was an English teacher in China, who also spoke Cantonese and Mandarin...

I was in New Caledonia a few years ago and I bought a French phrase book and got an app on the phone that was supposed to translate but everyone spoke English. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to try my toys out and then I found a bus driver who had trouble with English. I tried the phrase book and translator app with no success then someone pointed out he wasn't speaking French.

I did something similar when I went to Norway.... never got to use any of it... most people in Norway spoke English better than many people do in America. Only came across 2 people who did not speak English.... and I am pretty sure 1 of those was lying.
