I did not realize that. We (my father and I ) used to catch sunfish and bass but the linkage was never made.

You are overgeneralizing. And it's historically based when some things were women's work and some men's (such as being famous and well paid chefs). But I'm sure you know that and I was triggered by your words.

I don't think im over generalising, my hypothesis is that men see bbqs as a macho thing like huntin', shootin' and fishin'

BTW, do you cook the bbq as a matter of course and avoid the kitchen unless you are commanded?

One of my volunteer jobs involves being in a kitchen doing prep work. Sunday I prep mushrooms and cucumbers for dinner. Mid-week I made a salad dressing. Earlier when there was a large diet program, I assembled lunches and dinners for the dieters which included me.

One year for her birthday, my wife decided I should cook a "real" dinner from a decently complex recipe rather than just tossing whatever into a wok as the spirit moved me. When I was done with the mise en place phase, the little containers filled the counter. My wife labeled the result as a valiant effort that tasted decently.

I do 100% of the cooking. Well that's a small lie, Karen made me jelly once when I was sick, that was about 25 years ago and we're still waiting for it to set.
