Sometimes I really, really, really miss those days when all I cared about was music. I wouldn't want to repeat being poor and making bad decisions about not going to school, but those were some really good times that I can never reclaim for several reasons (not least of which the music scene around here is as dead as a doornail now)

I would share some really amazing local music we had going on that was really impactful on metal and metalcore and posthardcore and all that but it would instantly place exactly where I live haha.

A lot of our locals went on to play in big name bands. I'll say I know guys that left to join Nodes of Ranvier and Hopesfall

I feel the same. I miss when summer meant concerts and music fests amd winter was standing outside in line freezing during the winter. I've seen so many shows in the rain and thunder and tornado warnings and watches. Lots of great memories with my brother and friends. Great music, great crowds. And many of my best memories ever.

How can one rise and shine by listening to music that sounds like a guy growling, summoning the devil, or puking?

I don't mean to sound negative but that isn't my kind of music. But if its what you like, it doesn't matter what I think.

Perhaps it's an acquired taste, but I think you'll miss out on a lot of really meaningful, emotional, and impactful music. Stuff like this is what I grew up on, and the history of it is interesting (coming out of the hardcore punk movement, hence the genre name "melodic posthardcore").

It probably helps that I associate so many positive experiences with the music industry built around these genres. Some of the best years of my life.

Some of these bands are (or were) even Christians if that's your cup of tea (and in fact this particular band started as 7 Angels 7 Plagues... the same can be said for the beginnings of Hopesfall).

I sleep, and rise and shine, to that a lot of times. Not what MeowMix is listening to, but bands like Opeth, Cradle of Filth, Born of Osiris, Fleshgod Apocalypse and God Module.
I also do it with a lot of electronic, industrial, ebm, techno type music.

Am I wrong to say It has the feel of a Christian song? Probably about the soldiers who defend the country. But the lyrics are very Christian.
