You know, with almost 4,000 members, I'd think there'd be more people voting on this, seeing as how important it is.

LOTR has the advantage of time honored stories and all 3 movies being made within a few years of each other.

With Star Wars, IIRC, Lucas made parts 4, 5, & 6 because he felt that given the technology in the mid 1970s, he couldn't make 1, 2, & 3 into marketable movies. IMHO, part 3 was the best of all 6.

Parts 1 & 2 were very slow moving in the beginning, and taken by themselves weren't that great. I think if the scripts for all 6 movies had been written at the same time, and the films made around the same time, Star Wars would have been the undisputed winner in this poll. That's my 2 copper coins.:)

Come on, how can there be any competetion!??! STAR WARS!
Ok, I know Jar Jar was the worst star wars idea ever, but the original trilogy..was amazing. I love LOTR, but there's something about the theme music of the star destroyers and lightsabers.

Pippin! Billy Boyd, the Scottish actor who played him, wrote the musical accompaniment to that part of the score. It never fails to sends chills up my spine.
Makes me cry. Every time.

...and not just any people; his own son. I want to beat that man with a big stick. Repeatedly.

As much as I love LOTR (and I do, for all the reasons already mentioned and more), I voted for Star Wars...although probably more for sentimental reasons than them actually being better. Quite apart from all the fun I had playing Star Wars games with my friends as a kid, and all the Star Wars Lego I have bought as an adult (and played with!), the original trilogy got me through some very tough times. They literally kept me sane.

That being said though, if I saw some LOTR Lego, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. ;)

Bastet, I keep thinking how amazing it is that we have so much in common. The Star Wars films might not have suceeded in keeping me sane, but I'm a whole lot closer to it due to them than I would be otherwise.

*hand you a big stick* Try to get him before he reaches that edge, there.

I don't know if they have LOTR Legos, but they have Minimates of 'em, which are pretty darn close.

I voted Star Wars, but only because the poll specified 'movie'. I liked the animated Hobbit sooooo much, that never really did care too much for the new movies. I was very disappointed with the new movies, I can't explain why, it just seems inferior to the way the story of Star Wars was brought out on screen.

If we had been asked to vote on which story was best, I would have voted for JRR Tolkien. And if I could add my vote for best movie really goes to the original "Hobbit", I love the songs !!!!!!!"

Well yes, I did kind of mean "they kept me sane...relatively speaking". ;)

*grabs stick and runs after Denethor, ostensibly to beat out his flames with the flammable piece of wood...oops, there he goes* Maybe a wet blanket would have put it out?

It's not likely the one you are talking about , but I liked the first one . Where the dwarves were singing " Kill the men . Kill The Elves . Keep the gold for ourselves ", at the battle of the five armies ... or were there more ? I lost track listening to the song . :)

Yes, that's it. My favorite song is when they climb the trees to see where they are, "such funny little things. . ." I also like the song in the beginning of the movie, that introduces the gang to Bilbo Baggins. And the song when they hide in the wine barrels and float out of the city.

I love that movie !!!!
