The Musicians of the 80s

Neo Deist

Th.D. & D.Div. h.c.
I know there is a music forum, but I wanted this in a bigger forum for better responses/exposure.

The 1980s have to be, without a doubt, one of the greatest eras of music. It does not matter what you listen to, that time period produced so many naturally talented singers and musicians, and it was all before digital processing and autotune. You either had the gift or you didn't. As a drummer that was born in 1974, I can appreciate that I got to experience the 80s.

Some of the most nostalgic voices for me are as follows:

Steve Perry (Journey)
Jon Bon Jovi
Sebastian Bach
Vince Neil
Miljenko "Michael" Matijevic (Steelheart)

Garth Brooks
Brooks & Dunn

Beastie Boys
Run DMC
MC Hammer

Prince
Michael Jackson

For an AWESOME tribute to one of the greatest musicians of all time, watch this video:

BTW...Adam did this without autotune. He wanted to make it as authentic as possible.

Hmm 80s right? I like:

1880's

go to 13.58 for the fun part (Tchaikovsky uses actual cannons in this instrumentation!)

1780's

Prob one of the most iconic symphonies of Mozart

1680's

And of course Pachelbel 'played at every single wedding' canon.

Jokes aside its amazing to see how music has evolved over the centuries.

I also love this 1980's song by Journey

Hi Folks...

Yer Im an 80s teenager too - LOVED the whole era :)

Have to say though - digital processing ..?..auto tune..??..natural talent..?....Hmmm - I spent the entire decade going to gigs and festivals - and I assure you MOST artists sound NOTHING LIKE their recorded work !!!

Most concerts turn out to be severely disappointing in terms of "artistic talent"...Its HARD to sing and dance at the same time - even thoug it looks good and SOUNDS good in the video lol - on stage LIVE it is completely different and they often SOUND very different indeed...

Natural talent..?...But then you mention so called "rap artists" - run dmc the beastie boys and mc hammer of all people lol - C rap artists they should be called - all of them - sham musicians - for they dont ACTUALLY sing at all do they..?...ANYBODY can do what THEY do as it merely SPEAKING - perhaops a little faster than normal but merely SPEAKING nionethe less - not actually singing at all - not notes to hit and carry - juts words ot repeat over and over as some "catchy jingle"... And do any of these c rap artists - play any instruments..?...Hmmm - not usually - where is the actual TALENT then after all..??... rap - is just NOT music - its a sort of poetry i guess - but it certainly aint music...lol...It was by far the worse genre to come out of that decade...

I have far too many favourites to list - but right at the top would be Jon Anderson - (Jon and Vangelis) - his is perhaps the most memorable voice I ever heard, instantly recognisable - and their lyrics are pure spiritual genius - truly has something worthwhile and important to say every song...Ah they dont make em like they use to eh Folks..?...lol..This here - speaks to My SOUL - if it dont move me like this - then it aint music worth listening to in my mind - 35 years later - it still makes me shiver to the core ;)

What? Me worry?
Sorry you guys weren't around for the real rock and roll (late '60s, early '70s). It was a magical time for music.

What about Mr. Show Chet Atkins? The Members of Metallica even confessed to a reporter from "Metal Head Militia" magazine that they were highly influenced by his works:
