I hear the Chinese have been buying into America
and if they cash in......we go belly up

something about stocks and bonds
It's not so simple...there are great risks for China.
Ownership of property purchased exists at the pleasure of government.
It can be transferred by governmental fiat if the need is compelling.
And money lent to us....is that power?
Yes...but for us, for the borrower holds all the cards, or rather dollars.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...

Then they go belly up, to. There's nothing to be gained from driving your debtors into default, because you only make money if your debtors are making money to pay you.

It should go. It doesn't represent the pluralistic nature of America or the freedom we are bestowed to have a god, gods, goddess, one of them, many of them, none at all, or none of the above.
Why should money need a motto of any kind? My Canadian money says "Bank of Canada" and the denomination. Seems to work quite well.
God! Can't you guys up north make something controversial? :p

All in all, "in God we trust" seems really odd to put on money.

One way it could be taken is "this currency is backed by wishes," which is hardly confidence-inspiring.
