I'm curious... what is it based on? and do they tend to become secular? or other world views?
Mostly, when Muslims leave Islam, they become Atheists, I am speaking about myself, and the people I know in life or from other forums.
So, Atheism is rising.

The problem with highlighting ex-Muslims is that most ex-Muslims come from war torn countries or come from places where there is heavy extremist views. Irshad Manji is a heavy influence, and unfortunately many ex-Muslims paint this picture that Islam is inherently wrong based on their own experience, linking it with scripture. Unfortunately, Muslims drunk with power have been the cornerstone and the face of Islam, and like any religion its members are seen as the face of the religion.

If we want to be technical Christianity as practiced in contemporary times have been the most poisonous of all faiths, but we would not see that in the media due to the influence of Christian economical influence. People leave and exchange religious faiths all the time this is nothing new in the world. Islam is no different and its not even thread worthy to even present such a thing. The only reason why "ex-Muslims" do this because at some point they were affected someway either living in an extremist society denoting the behaviors of extremist with said religion, or they were just unhappy., Either way, what is the point?

I'm an ex baptist Christian but does that mean I'll make a thread of how bad Christianity is? No. I had some disagreements with its theology and I left but it doesn't mean I'm going to make a thread on how bad it is, it just isn't for me. But those who make these types of threads have axes to grind.
You are speaking about two different faith... the pure Islam is more dangerious than Nazisim, thoses he leave Islam should be encouraged, because all the Islamic world lack any kind of freedom.

There are people that leave Islam in the US, but there are also quite a few that embrace Islam in the US.
Studies estimated approximately 30,000 convert to Islam annually in the United States.
Like @Epic Beard Man said people leave and exchange religious faiths all the time this is nothing new in the world, and Islam is no different.
In the US, most of new converter in Islam, leave it again.
Seven out of every ten converts, leave Islam, by Imam Luqman Ahmad
Nothing in (the freedom to leave a religion) to do with Islam, the apostates should be killed in Islam. Of course the western countries don't have the full picture or the full understanding of that.

Aye, that's what I take away from this, ie, that many in Islamic countries are
unbelievers, but are forced under great duress to remain ostensibly Muslim.
The conversion rate here is indicative of religious freedom to be who they
already are. And if some have an unspiritual awakening, that's just gravy,
since the country could benefit from more heathenism (for diversity's sake).

What the heck is "pure Islam?"

Not to sound rude but you're not from the United States are you? Or English being your first language. If it is my apologies but the syntax of this response leads me to believe otherwise and if so, what country are you from?

Like I said people come and go in religion all the damn time this is not thread worthy. For every person that leaves Islam at least 20 more are born into it and at least 10 more convert to it.

This is what you have to look forward to and if trends like this beyond 2050 continue Islam will be the world's dominant religion:

Well, that is the thing. Islaam is remarkable, among other reasons, because those that leave it are so often so disgusted by its doctrine and proselitism. I don't think there is any other significant movement claiming to be a religion that actually discusses whether apostasy is worth of a death penalty.

Islaam is also remarkable because its current demographic trends are very likely not to continue. As awareness grows, so will rejection of Islaam.

My main objection is that it seems opposed to democratic government.

Modern Christian movements with contemporary worship appear to me to believe in freedom, but there are caveats. They support democratic government overall, and you can leave them without being killed. You should be wary though of raising their ire. The ministers have a strong tendency to trash talk and gossip about anyone who disagrees with them. Just the other week I heard a word of life preacher say that other preachers who disagreed on some point were 'Twisting the Scriptures'. It was an attempt to close minds and raise fences and indirectly call the other preachers evil. The environment is one in which anybody or anything can be targeted by a preacher, and this translates to a kind of soft political power.

Sometimes people who make these kinds of threads have concerns about people getting hurt by religion X or Y. Generally its not the purpose of these forums though. We're supposed to be here as a religious Switzerland where people of different religions can communicate and share commonalities. It does seem like we attract a lot of nay sayers.

The heck pure Islam Is what you can find in Quran and the six books of hadith, and what Ibn taymiyyah an ibn abdul wahhab wrote in their books, and this is what taught in the Islamic school in most of the Islamic institutions all over the Islamic world.

And the sooner, the better...

I often get the picture of the Islam that is so often promoted is like that of a shady used car salesperson. You go and look, it seems OK and so you buy the car. It's sold as if it even has a built in pop-up toaster! It's only after a few weeks that you find out the car has major problems and that you really need to get out of the contract. You go back to the dealership and quickly find that the good folks you bought the load of junk from are not as keen talking to you as they once were.

Oh, what would you know? @Epic Beard Man is the foremost authority on Islam here on RF and will not hesitate to tell you so. Why would a former Muslim question a non-Muslim, self-anointed authority, on all things Islam?

(Note: @Eihab ... since you are new and don't know me... the above is meant extremely sarcastically.)

We heard about the story of a disobedient Muslim who want to marry a non-Muslim, He gave her a lot of books to read about Islam. At the end she liked Islam and became a good Muslim but rejected to marry him by saying to him: Islam says so and so, and you do nothing of those how then you are Muslim?
Children raised in the West generally are easily drifted by the prevailing cultural currents.
At the same time Islam is fast growing among the Americans especially in the West, Probably this is one of the reasons behind the campaign led by president Trump to frame Islam with terrorism.

This is a useful link. It reminds us that dissenters with Islam face severe physical punishment, even death.

While the penalties for apostasy can be high in the West, they are much more severe in the Muslim world. In Pakistan, blasphemy carries a death sentence. In Bangladesh, atheist writers have been hacked to death by machete-wielding vigilantes. An atheist who recently appeared on Egyptian television to debate a former deputy sheikh from Al-Azhar University was dismissed by the host and told that he needed to see a psychiatrist. Mr Olad, who was born in a refugee camp in Kenya, has seen both worlds—he knows ex-Muslims in Kenya and Somalia who were severely beaten when their secrets were discovered.

Though Christian dissenters might be shunned, I don't think the religion endorses killing those that leave the religion, like Islam does.
